Liberty at the Colonial Inn is such a lovely place to enjoy a meal, especially when the weather’s perfect for outdoor dining. We sat outside and couldn’t have asked for a prettier setting. I ordered the Jambalaya, my husband had the chicken pot pie, my mother-in-law enjoyed the clam chowder, and her husband got the chicken caprese sandwich. Each dish was delicious, and we topped it all off with different desserts — every bite was fantastic.

The only reason this isn’t a five-star review is the service. It was very slow, and our dinner stretched to about two hours. For a place where we made reservations months in advance, it was a bit extreme. That said, the food and atmosphere made up for it, and I would absolutely go back. Nestled in a building that dates back to the Revolutionary era, the inn itself is steeped in Concord’s rich history, which only adds to the charm of the experience.

We were sat fairly quickly, waited a little over 5min. for the server to come over, but she came with waters and took our order right away. We got the Yankee pot roast and the chicken pot pie. If you were trying to decide between the two I’d go with the chicken pot pie! The flavors were perfect, very cozy meal. The pot roast was alright, tender, good flavor, but there were some dryer bits. Also the butternut squash wouldn’t have been my 1st choice to go with it.

We walked into this beautiful historic inn and loved being part in a chapter of America. There are two restaurants – The Liberty Room and the Village Forge Tavern. We shared the fresh lump crab cakes – which were super fresh and delicious, as well as the Rueben sandwich. It was plenty for both of us to have half with a cold ale on the side. Highly recommend. Staff very friendly, atmosphere authentic. Had a great time! Would love to go back for an overnight stay.

Our family of four was seated on the patio in the late afternoon and we enjoyed the garden scenery in addition to the food. I ordered a special which was a salmon burger, replaced arugula with reg lettuce due to preference. Someone in our party order the lobster roll, which none of us had previously experienced and it was good to note that it was served cold (and this is different than I expected). The salmon burger had great flavor and was surprisingly saucy (sauce was good) but if that’s not your thing ask for it on the side. Sweet potato fries were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The hostess was busy when we got there but accommodating which made us enjoy our time there more!

This review is based on two visits about 3 weeks apart. The first, in early December, was really good, and the second, yesterday, was really disappointing. So the three stars are based on averaging one excellent and one poor experience. In both cases, all the same entrees were ordered. On the first visit, the service was excellent and the food was delicious across the board (Yankee Pot Roast, Pan-Seared Salmon, and Fish and Chips). On the second visit, the food was okay, but the service was an issue . We came back because my daughter loved the Yankee Pot Roast the first time. It was flavorful and tender, with generous gravy and delicious sides. On the second visit, the meat was very dry, and there was very little gravy. My daughter was bummed because she was really looking forward to the delicious meal she’d remembered from the last visit. The rest of our meals were just okay. But it’s what happened when we first arrived for our reservation that really surprised me. We were placed in a smaller dining room (not the large main one like the first time), which was actually really lovely, and there were no other patrons there. Then we sat for 10 minutes without being greeted by a server. We finally went to the hostess to let her know, who didn’t seem to care, did not apologize, and did not offer any solution. It was as though we were bothering her. I was honestly mystified So we politely asked to be moved to the main dining room where we hoped to at least have a server bring us some water and take our orders. It was not busy, and there were only two other parties in the main dining room. After we moved to the main room, two employees came and stood at the door for a few minutes staring at us and talking quietly to each other. It was really strange and uncomfortable, and made rest of the dining experience pretty unenjoyable. Not the experience we hoped for during the holidays, and I don’t think we’ll be back anytime soon.

We stopped in at around lunch time and were pleasantly surprised to have been able to take advantage of their Sunday brunch. The brunch was amazing with so many delicious options. The food options were plentiful and all were absolutely delicious. I highly suggest you make reservations, we did not but were lucky to be able to be seated at the bar area. The service was excellent and the ambiance was really nice. We would definitely go back.

We stopped in here for lunch. It was not as busy as I was expecting so that was great. We were seated immediately and the service was good.

I had the fired and chips and although being in New England I thought it would be more traditional chips but they were just French fries. The fish was excellent and flaky with a good breading.

The wife had the chicken pot pie. It was more like potato soup with a pastry crust over top of the bowl. It wasn’t bad but not her favorite meal thus far on our trip.

I love the Colonial Inn. But we had lunch in the Liberty room and it was a big disappointment. Daughter’s steak tips were tasteless. My burger was decent, but had been reheated in a microwave and the bun was hard, dry and stuck to the burger, fries were cool. Waiter never brought my drink. Food runner dropped our food and raced off, not asking if we needed anything. (I wanted mustard). No one checked on us until the bill came, which was $50. I won’t go back there to eat.

Very cute restaurant with tonsss of New England charm. Worth the visit especially during good weather to be able to sit outside. Food was good, service felt more at the level of a applebees. Cocktails were blah but good wine!
Oh and amazing complimentary corn bread!
