Stopped for breakfast We ordered the French toast and the mini biscuits and gravy. Both had zero flavor and will not be back. Plus, they only take cash

I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience at Jane’s this past weekend left me no choice.

While visiting my mother in Virginia, we stopped in and were shocked by the service. From the start, the waiter dropped menus on the table without a word, then asked for our drink order with visible irritation. When I ordered coffee, his response was, “Well, I’d HAVE to make a pot,” in a snarky tone. Later, when I asked for a refill, he ignored me at first but eventually brought it.

The food itself didn’t help. The toast was soggy with butter, and combined with the service, it felt careless if not retaliatory. Each interaction with the waiter was curt and dismissive, with no effort to create a welcoming experience.

I’ve always loved diners, and we had been looking forward to finding one all morning. Unfortunately, this visit was a complete disappointment. Based on the service and overall attitude, I cannot recommend Jane’s.

Service and food were great except the home fries were a little underdone. I asked for the cook to make them crispy and the waitress obliged. The cook and owner I presume was sitting at the bar and proceeded to pitch a fit about how I should have ordered them that way to begin with. She made a spectacle of dumping the contents of the plate in the trash and saying she had to start all over. Mind you I was sitting not 10 feet away. I went to the counter to pay and get out ASAP and she than chastised me repeatedly on how they run things at her place and how to order properly. First time last time. PS waitress was wonderful.

I came in today to dine-in with my family. When my grandmother tried to pay, she didn’t realize Jane’s Lunch was cash-only as that’s a brain-less rule to begin with in this day and age. After her confusion, the OWNER then tells her that this is America and that she shouldn’t be getting confused and to carry cash. My grandmother is of Cuban descent, so obviously, the owner meant nothing good by that statement. This restaurant is being ran by the most horrible, racist, no-good people and that woman is lucky I chose to cool down instead of lunging at her for what she’s said to my poor grandmother. You run a business. Don’t think because you run a particularly small-knit one, that you reserve the right to talk to anybody any kind of way. Shame on whoever for seeing this behavior and staying silent about it. SOMEONE CALL GORDON RAMSEY ON HER!

We got biscuits and gravy and they were good. The problem was the service they never came to check on us or bring more coffee. We ordered two biscuits and gravy just one platter and my husband and I were going to split it. They ended up giving us one biscuit instead of two. And they also told us there would be a plate sharing charge since we shared the meal. Which they did not inform us of that until after we ate our meal.We didn’t even get an extra plate and it was not printed on their menu that there would be an extra charge for sharing a meal, when we went to pay we told them we only got one biscuit instead of two as requested, and she did not believe us. this was my first time at this restaurant. We are new to the area and wanted to find a good breakfast place that had good biscuits and gravy, but I must say, I will not return after the experience we had. Also, they only take cash Which I don’t understand why businesses do that. I didn’t notice that a little sign on the front door because there were so many Kinds of stickers on the front door. Thank goodness my in-laws were with us that could pay for our meal with cash because we do not carry much cash.

The food is delicious I’ve only had breakfast there when I have time to go there. The owner is so down to earth and made me feel special. The waitress is phenomenal & had a great personality. I sat at the bar, read the newspaper they have available & was kept in peach tea. I wish I lived closer so I could visit more frequently. Fun time.
