Today I stopped by Moondogs Coney Cafe after seeing some great reviews on another page, and I’m glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the owners, Janet and Mike, who were super welcoming and happy to walk me through the menu and suggest some customer favorites.
I went with the Enchilada Dog and the Philly Cheesesteak Dog, both served on steamed buns, loaded with cheese, and topped just right. Pro tip: if you order the Philly Dog, don’t skip the grilled peppers and onions—that really seals the deal.
One thing that really stood out was the service. Right as I was about to take my first bite, I got a phone call that pulled me away for a few minutes. When I came back, Mike had actually put my dog back in the steamer so it would still be hot and enjoyed the way it was meant to be. That kind of thoughtful touch is rare and really appreciated.
Both the dog and sausage were flavorful and satisfying, and I’d absolutely come back to try more of what they offer. They’ve been open for a few years now and clearly have a loyal following—and it shows.
If you’re ever in the area, Moondogs is definitely worth a stop

Even better, the ownership is fun. I got to meet husband and wife and they were so fun and full of happiness. I then got the privilege to meet their daughter, who was baking the goods in the oven. This family rocks! I highly recommend making the drive and supporting this one.
They recommend using Otts dressing they have on hand. It is the bomb!! You must try. Best thing I’ve had here. Great place.
Moondog’s are the best. Smokey flavor in the dog, superb chili, fresh chopped onion. Bargain deals. Get two or three with chips and a drink. Lots of versions and I spotted a Cuban sandwich on the menu. Friendly service. A mom-and-pop operation. Clean with a tropic surf side décor. They even have a banana tree out front!
Eat here. You will throw rocks at those sad excuses for coneys that you have been eating.
We had the pleasure of visiting the owners, who are very interesting people with a wealth of travel experiences and entertaining stories.
We will certainly return to sample other items on the menu.
The Hawaiian decor is evident from the moment you enter the parking lot. The restaurant is bright and clean.
