We opened Makai Island Grill in January of 2016. Since then, we have been serving the most mouth-watering and delicious meals from our homeland. We learned our recipes from our grandmother, who operated food truck and catering businesses in Honolulu Hawaii. Makai, which means “to the ocean”, is representative of our laid-back and relaxing atmosphere. So, no matter what brings you out, make sure you make today a Makai day.

Normally I love ordering from Makai it’s one of my favorite spots, but I was very disappointed with my recent order. My mom wanted a small bowl with kalbi, I don’t mind paying an extra $3 for it it, what I do mind is ordering the bowl and only receiving 3 pieces of meat that were dry and lacking.

The Hawaiian Poke was super spicy and beyond salty. Also, the image on the the shows two containers one looks like tuna and the other like salmon but only the tuna came. There was no option to select one or the other which is misleading as the image shows both.

Excellent customer service provided by Eric last night. And all the employees. The food was hot, fresh, and prepared quickly, even though I walked in on the eleventh hour. (Sorry about that guys) I got a small plate of chicken wings, rice and macaroni salad, the portion was so big for a small plate. The prices are very reasonable, my dish was $9 with tax. I was very full. The restaurant was very clean. The bathrooms were clean. This is becoming one of my favorite little local spots. See you soon, thanks!

We enjoyed the food so much the first we returned to try other dishes. Ivy the server once again was wonderful. She gave us a warm welcome. She was happy to see us return. She said we were awesome customers. We really felt appreciated. It was the first time we had that compliment. She was cheerful, efficient, patient the whole time; an asset to the restaurant. I ordered the kalua pig, garlic edamane and brown rice with a side of ahi poke, very yummy.

Convenient location off 95 on West Tropical. Free onsite parking with handicap parking and handicap access. Very clean, neat, bright interior. Eat in or take out. Spacious table settings. Menu is located above the order counter. Prices are moderate and selections are varied. Ivy our server was excellent, very friendly, courteous and patient. We told her it was our first time here and she was great in answering our questions. The small bowl of teriyaki chicken, brown rice, kim chee slaw with a side of ahi poke was yummy. It reminded me of the Hawaiian islands food. They also have different flavors of Hawaiian Sun fruit drinks. We will return to try the other dishes.

The pug was great, very tender and juicy. Service was fast and friendly at this cafeteria style restaurant. The chicken teriyaki was a bit dry and had probably been sitting out too long. The kimchee slaw was good, not too strong for my wife. I like it fermented to a higher degree.
Bathrooms were clean, and the whole facility was well taken care of. The price to portion ratio that we got was good.

Not sure what’s going on with the service today or if there’s new staff or the restaurant changed up serving sizes, but not happy with the plates I just received. Made a comment about the serving sizes and the girls up front looked lost. My family comes here all the time and I’m very familiar with the serving sizes. This is not worth the nearly $40 I just spent.

We were looking for some local style food near us after my wife’s hair appointment and found this place. Bradda “Gus” was the guy who helped us at the counter, and the young man in the stove with the glasses was pretty funny too. Food was Ono and they offer a handful of sauces that compliment whatever you’re eating. We had Teriyaki Chicken, Teriyaki beef, and Ahi Poke. I had the Spicy Poke, believing the other wasn’t spicy, but it was, so mama couldn’t eat it. Meals also come with 2 sides. The open environment was awesome, I think we were there about 1:30 or so, so it was after lunch time traffic, but that’s just how we like it.
There’s ample parking as well. Enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.

First time to eat at this restaurant. Nice vibe coming in being greeted and helping first timer with the selection process! Might have been an off day for the cook. My choice meat where heavy on the salty side. I’ll try to visit again soon to give them a fairer critique. I do like having some choice Hawaiian favorites near our area.

Nice Hawaiian joint. Order-at-the-bar style fast food. Good poke, teriyaki chicken, chicken katsu, and a few kinds of steak. The 3 item combo is a good value with 2 sides and rice. Sticky rice was good, as was the dole sorbet/whip dessert. Very nice employees, will come back!

Ordered 2 dinners from this location. We got a med and large, various meats with double kimchee slaw. What arrived to the door was worthless. All kimchee slaw was replaced with shredded lettuce. The double chick teryaki is a single. This was a total ripoff vs the Makai we usually go to on Lake Mead. Door dash gave us 9.00 back but its clear when you order to go, they wont hesitate to give you whatever they feel like. Even attempting to call says, “send us an email”. Garbage service.
