This place has the most delicious food. The service provided was impeccable. The owner came out to make sure we were happy with everything. Portions were more than fair and cooked to perfection.
Forgot to take pictures of our 1st course and dessert.

I guess when you’re the only French Restaurant in Hyde Park you can afford to be mediocre and still stay in business. The French Baguette Sandwich they served across the street at Jimmy John’s was better than the fare here. Sacre’ Bleck! As you can see in their response below they are totally oblivious to feedback. They are right about one thing; you gotta’ love the web! Fortunately you don’t have to love this joint.

Excellent French food at this restaurant. We were very surprised to find this gem in a small strip mall in Hyde Park in Chicago.

If you are looking for high quality authentic French cuisine at a reasonable price, then La Petite Folie is the restaurant for you. i recently had their roasted Halibut with ratatouille and baby potatoes and it was outstanding!. The dish itself was a work of art with each component distinct yet complimenting the whole. But the perfectly prepared Halibut was the star. It was moist and yet the fish flaked perfectly with a little assistance from my fork. And i can say, with no hesitation it was the most delicious fish i have ever tasted!

My first experience here with a group of schuler scholar family. The waiters were very kind, and the food had very beautiful presentation. The chef gave us details about the food (specifically the soup). Me and my friends had a very good time here. We originally came here for etiquette skills (even as a minor)…. Definitely not like a fast food restaurant, it was a great reminder to be joyous and not to rush yourself.
I thank you for the great experience!

We waited our food for 2 hours without any communication and only found out after 1 hour that our orders were not even given to the kitchen. One of us had to leave after one and half hr without even being able to eat and some people had to take a walk because the wait was too long. I’d choose a 2hr lecture over this. The food was so mediocre, and only the plate was hot (the food was not). And I can’t help but notice that most of the good reviews are given by “local guides”. I guess a lack of competition gives you this quality. Or are we looked down upon because we’re not old and white?

La Petite folie is a bastion of fine dining in the otherwise acceptable but nothing to write home about cuisine of Hyde Park. I’ve been to France quite a few times and right when you walk in there you feel the atmosphere of the old country. Then you look at their wine list and you know you’re in a real French restaurant. They make the best omelettes in Hyde Park but their cuisine goes so far beyond that. They have a lot of game and meats that you don’t generally come across in this city, all prepared in an authentically French style, and they’ve figured out the rare twist for the American palate that enhances rather than dumbs down the food. Highly recommended.

Listen if you are looking for a fast meal in a trendy and hip place. Dont go here. But if you are looking for quality and to slow down, appreciate the company and taste at an affordable price this is now my go to option in hyde park. The deserts are something special as is the rest of the meal.

If you want a relaxed meal in an environment where you can talk, LPF is the perfect place. The food is fine, not great but if you choose wisely not unpleasant. Tonight, we had weird service, which is pretty common here. The waiter walked away before he had taken everyone’s orders. He brought burning hot plates and didn’t warn us the way they do in normal restaurants. He never asked how things were after serving. Never asked if we needed anything else until dessert. But, look, we had a well-timed meal in an enjoyable atmosphere, with a great, incredibly cheap bottle of wine–Crozes-Hermitage for$48–and the dessert I shared, an apple tarte, was actually delicious… If you want more than this for total $65/person… good luck.

Not just the best restaurant in Hyde Park, but, in my opinion, the very finest French restaurant in Chicago. With the veeerrry particular owner in the kitchen who finds every opportunity to come to the dining room to assure perfection in service to accompany the best food. And I can’t help but make some recommendations like the roasted onion tart appetizer to begin. Then the duck breast entre. You can come back the next night for the Idaho Trout. Or just drive around the block because you still haven’t tasted the scallops! Who would have thought a place like this would be virtually hidden in a strip mall, albeit one with a pleasant courtyard in one of the best neighborhoods in the City.
