Great place for Chinese food, Hibachi, and sushi! They have a lot of options for a decent price. The foods were tasty. Only thing is, the hibachi buffet didn’t have sauces to pick from. They take it to the grill (through a small window) and cook it with a house sauce that tasted like soy sauce and teriyaki. It tasted really good. The service was great! Friendly, professional and efficient. The restaurant is clean and open and inviting.

I was really impressed with my visit to China Star.
They keep food warm and fresh. Rotation is quick. Dumping and eggroll were crispy, not soggy, and everything on the hot line was steaming. I loved the selection—they had all the classics especially big shrimp!!!!
The dessert station was the highlight. I got 6 different kind of dessert. The staff did a great job keeping the buffet tables clean and clearing our plates quickly. I left stuffed and happy. Will definitely return!

I went here twice to give it a fair review. Once during their lunch rush and one around 2 pm when it was essentially dead. Getting the food is weird. To maximize dining space, the food is all up against the wall, so people tend to form a line, making it longer to get what you want. On the flip side there were so many spots to sit that despite the parking lot being full we had no wait time.
The servers are quick to clean your table and refill your drink. They have a decent amount of food, and a large selection of sushi. There is no orange chicken but their honey chicken is pretty good. Their sugar donuts were subpar, but they were fairly fresh just lacked sugar.
Only gripe was that when i was pulling out some plates a few of them looked slightly dirty.
It was also about $5 cheaper than sohao buffet. Between me and the woman we spent $35, not including tips. Definitely recommend at least giving it a try!

My husband and I ate lunch there today. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. Service was great and they checked on us several times. The food was hot and tasted great. Very nice selection of food offered and everything was labeled. Had a nice selection of desserts too. Will definitely be going back sometime.

The food was excellent – hot and fresh throughout.
The only drawback to this location is the layout and flow of the buffet – the buffet hugs the outer perimeter of the wall next to the kitchen (likely for convenience), but the way the restaurant is sectioned off, it causes a bottleneck in the buffet line. You literally have to stand in line and move through the buffet flow to get your food. When it’s busy, it can be a wait. Plus, you have to dodge kitchen workers coming out and constantly refilling the food. Plan for this when you visit and don’t be in a hurry.
They offer fresh made sushi and a hibachi section (you pick the raw ingredients and they will grill them for you).
I don’t think there’s another buffet in Lawrence that does this.
Personally, I rate it one star higher than Sahao Buffet, which I love.
Lunch buffet M-F is $15.99/person and includes a drink (except beer – that’s an extra charge).
Dinner buffet M-F after 3 PM is 19.99/person.
Weekend buffets (Saturday and Sunday) is $19.99/person.
They do have child pricing and it varies according to age.
I will definitely be back!

Just went there for the first time… and was very impressed. They have a ton of options at the buffet and I thought everything I tried was great. Our kids loved it too. For the money, you can’t beat all the options you get and the quality of food.

The dining area is much larger than it may appear from the outside. Service was quick and friendly. The food choices on the buffet was great. Food was plentiful and fresh. Sushi, hibachi grill, salad bar and dessert bar fantastic. I really like the honey chicken and general tsu, fried rice, crawfish, coconut shrimp, so many others. If you haven’t visited Big Star you’re missing out. I will defiantly be returning many times. Thank you Big Star.

I’ve made two visits. One on Sunday lunch (it was packed!). Food was plenty hot and good, sushi was good also. 2nd was on a Friday, lunch again, it was good typical Chinese buffet choices. (Soups & crabrangoo were good !) If you’re wanting choices and hot buffet, a good sushi selection start here. I did not try the hibotchy grill…saving that for next time!!! (Friday, our waitress was amazing! )

Come and have a try in the newly opened restaurant. There are many dishes and the taste is good. Although it has just opened and it is very busy, there are many people and the food is served quickly. The food can keep the temperature. I like it. I will come again.
