I recently had the pleasure of ordering authentic ecuadorian food at Vinny’s Pizzeria. A locally owned restaurant near the Newark-Penn Station in Newark. Once I walked in, I was immediately struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. The staff was polite and courteous, tables were set ready to one side and the food buffet at another.

This restaurant offers much more than just pizza, ranging from fried chicken, to white rice, to pulled pork, empanadas, and more.

The service was excellent. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and was happy to answer any questions we had.

The menu at Vinny’s features a wide variety of Ecuadorian dishes, as shown in the picture above. I ordered the “hornado” a well known Ecuadorian cuisine, which consists of white rice, pulled pork, plantains, and black beans. They give you more than you could ever ask for, plenty of food for a great price.

I don’t go there for pizza. The owners are Ecuadorian and make great Ecuadorian and Portuguese soups, pretty good pernil. They also have morcilla and roasted chicken. A platter with pernil or another protein, rice and beans plus a choice put of three drinks costs around $10-12. I use generous portions of their homemade marinated red onion and jalapeño, present at every table. The staff is always warm and friendly.

Stopped in for lunch after meeting the new owner on a First Friday event in town. Mickey is exceptionally friendly, enthusiastic and has big plans for the restaurant, including karaoke night, music on Sunday evenings and a rotating-theme buffet on Sundays. As his staff come from different cultures, it’s something that he’s capable of doing well. Mickey has an extensive background in the food industry, including 25 years of managing nearly 100 Taco Bell stores, so is well versed in food. Our pizza was tasty, and they offer an extensive menu. We’re looking forward to trying Indian food on a Sunday buffet.

Came here for a birthday and they were fabulous. The service was great- accommodating and welcoming. We shared the calamari which was delicious. I really liked the broth that it was in. I tried a bite of the burrata appetizer. YUM!!!!! That burrata was amazing!!!! For my entree, I had the spaghetti nero and clams. The noodles are made with squid ink so it is black.

The Latin dishes needs more flavor…
The red beans was too watery yet over cooked. The baked chicken needs more loving. Maybe if it was cooked with white onions, fresh chunks of garlic and cilantro to take it up a notch. The rice was slightly undercooked. The House Made Hot Sauce was Goood.
