Such a cool experience and an amazing steak! I was staying in Dillon but decided to take a short drive to try this place and so glad I did. The ladies working as well as the guy cooking my steak were very personable! So much history here and great food – you won’t be disappointed!

You couldn’t ask for a friendlier welcome, more dedicated service, or a better steak. We went ahead and ordered a tomahawk steak (24hrs in advance!) and were met with a massive 4lbs steak. Jason the owner was checking us in and cooking dinner – he works hard. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
The dining room area is decked out in elk heads and cool antiques from the area. The building has huge historical significance and they’ve done a great job sharing and continuing that history. Make sure you stop in Grant, just to eat here.

From Phoenix, AZ was referred by our realtor, she knew it was our anniversary and said we would love it! She was correct, it had fabulous atmosphere, food and drinks. The owner himself prepared our food. He was very personable as well as his staff. Highly recommend you stop off at this quaint little steakhouse you will not be disappointed!

Great hospitality and even better food. Definitely rustic hunting lodge with a unique homey ambience that makes everyone feel welcome and part of this military family run operation. Vets and active duty receive discounts. Dinner reservations not needed unless you are ordering the amazing Tomahawk steak. Live music some weekends.

While driving from Las Vegas to Deer Lodge Montana we were looking for dinner spots along the highway. Horse Prairie Stage Stop had one review that won us over and we decided to pull in for dinner. The service was lovely, the food was delicious, and the local beers were tasty. If you’re on your way in or out of town make sure to stop in. Your taste buds will thank you.

I keep coming back!!! 12 miles west of Clark Canyon Reservoir for fishing and recreation. Fantastic stop along the Tour Divide for cyclist and hikers. Hands down the best dry aged steaks in Montana! The beer is ice cold, or if you prefer, they have a good selection of wine. And hey…… the Macho burrito ( my favorite!) is HUGE!! Great atmosphere and staff. Family friendly restaurant, lots of local cowboys and cowgirls in the saloon. A fun place to discover on The Prairie!

Broke down on the interstate on Christmas at 2 in the morning. No Tow companies were answering their phones, was feeling hopeless, stranded in the middle of nowhere near Dillon, MT. Called 911 and they managed to get the Horse Prairie to come rescue me with their Wrecker. Not only did they rescue me, they provided me a very comfortable room for a very good rate for two nights while I waited for part shops to open after the holiday. Not only that, they fed me a delicious Turkey and Ham dinner on Christmas Day! Then Don, one of the wrecker drivers drove me to town for parts on my broke down truck, and fixed my truck for a very reasonable price the day after Christmas! These are the friendliest people, comfortable room, great food, and well stocked bar. I will be returning sometime under better conditions!

Talk about a hidden gem.
We stopped in Bannack State Park, toured the Ghost Town, and had the sweetest park ranger ever not only recommend this spot – but called here and checked to make sure they were open for us before sending us this way!
About 30 mins from Dillon and 20 minutes if you’re visiting Bannack, we thought we’d just stop in and have a beer. We each had the best steaks of our lives! I had the 28oz Ribeye and my wife had the NY strip, the types of steak rotate fresh with what local meats they get. It was cooked to perfection and just absolutely the best steak we’ve had. Better than some legendary steakhouses we’ve been to in NY and Philly.
We ended up camping for the night in our RV here, and had dinner again the next night. Worth every penny.
