Review: Kaia’s, Danville’s New Tiki Bar, is Incredibly Fun and …
Reviews
I was excited to hear that a new tiki restaurant had opened in Danville, so my boyfriend and I, along with a friend, decided to check it out last night.
The drinks were decent—not particularly strong or memorable, but they were enjoyable and probably the highlight of the evening.
Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations. The menu offered standard Hawaiian fare, but the execution was lacking. My poke bowl had barely any flavor, and the presentation felt rushed and uninspired. The kalbi was overcooked and tough, and it was served with cold rice—which was surprising and unappetizing for a dish that’s usually warm and comforting. The pork sandwich was another disappointment, missing both flavor and sauce, making it dry and forgettable.
Overall, while I appreciated the concept and was hopeful for a fun tiki dining experience, the food left a lot to be desired. I wouldn’t rush back anytime soon.
During our last visit though, the quality of the food significantly deteriorated that we thought they had a change of ownership or chef. Good thing the drinks were good. We ordered Altamont Maui Wowie and the Painkiller. I do not recommend this place to anyone looking for great tasting Hawaiian food.
The rice was al dente instead of soft all the way through, the hamburger patty looked like the preformed sirloin burger from Costco, and the egg was hard and not runny. The gravy tasted like it came from a package and was salty. I really wanted to like it bc I love island food, but it was disappointing.
Our waiter was great and the vibe was cool. Didn’t try the drinks but my wife likes mai tai’s, so we might try that next time.
For food we had the truffle burger, salmon, and loco moco. I would pass on the loco moco next time, the gravy tasted Worcestershire flavored- wasn’t what I was looking for. But I hope the dishes improve in the future! I will be back for the ambiance and tropical drink selection 🙂
