Been here twice. Awesome staff. Good vibes. Good crowd. Definitely a place to bring a date and enjoy some pool.
I ordered a burger and didn’t expect much. To my surprise they have really good burgers !
The following day I coincidentally met the owners of the company that supplies them with there beef patties. They are good folks too. That’s what ya get when you have good folks joining up with other good folks…. Good outcome.
I would recommend this location to anyone.

Walked in and we were the only 2 guests aside from 3-4 bar guests. Yet drinks were nearly always empty. Ordered two burgers, and they had been cooked to death, had to dunk in sauce just add some juiciness to the bites. Saw the receipt, waitress put well done on both, of which we didn’t ask for nor were we asked what temp we wanted them cooked. Fries were good though. Atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. They were streaming the live music from another bar instead of having live music themselves. Kinda odd. Overall experience.. meh.

Mad Hyena’s Bar is MAD GOOD!
Okay, so Mad Hyena’s Bar in New Castle is seriously amazing!
We tried their jalapeño infused burger and WOW!…the flavor was spot on with just the right amount of heat. Not too much, not too little, just perfect. I’m still thinking about that burger! The spicy tenderloin was also off the hook.
The people there are awesome and super friendly. Honestly, this place is way more than just your typical local bar. It’s the kind of spot you actually want to drive out to, not just stumble into because it’s nearby.
Everything we had was great, and the whole vibe of the place just makes you want to stay longer. Rick & Amy are doing it right!
If you’re anywhere near New Castle (or even if you’re not!), you need to check out Mad Hyena’s. Totally worth it!

A bit of a strange atmosphere here. For a place called Mad Hyena, you’d expect a fun, lively bar, but it’s been very empty and quiet every time we’ve stopped in. Yesterday was especially awkward with some uncomfortable interactions from other patrons across the room. We haven’t tried the food yet because the vibes have just been too ‘off’ to stay long.
I really want to like this place because the food reviews are so good, but the atmosphere has been a struggle. We have heard great things about the owners Richard and Amy, but have yet to ever see them there. It feels a bit odd walking into a bar with no music or energy. We might give it one more shot during a different time of day, but so far, it hasn’t lived up to the fun name. Maybe we are just coming at bad times.
And please offer more than 1800 and Jose silver as your tequila choices. In 2024 and 2025, agave spirits (Tequila and Mezcal) officially surpassed American Whiskey to become the #2 most valuable category, and it is currently “neck and neck” with Vodka for the #1 spot in total revenue. People want tequila. And good tequila at that. 1800 is 100% Blue Agave. Jose Cuervo Especial is a “mixto” (not 100% agave), meaning it contains at least 51% agave with added sugars. People are wanting better quality tequila and seeking out tequilas that are additive free or close to it. Your real tequila fans will want 100% blue weber agave. That is another reason we do not stay. Every bar should at least have Patron as an alternative to 1800.

What an amazing place to eat and have a drink! This spot truly has it all—great food, great atmosphere, and great entertainment. The free pool on Mondays is a blast and makes the beginning of the week so much fun. Highly recommend stopping in for food and some games!

Its a perfectly serviceable bar and grill, but their karaoke nights can be frustrating; their particular KJ takes breaks between lists, so if I want to sing and hear others sing, there’s a minimum of 3 long non-karaoke songs of just waiting around. As a non-local, maybe I’m the only one who cares though. Karaoke is on Thursdays.

We have been here 4 times in 6 months and it’s depressing every time we have walked in. No one is friendly. Everyone stares at you, if anyone is even in the bar. It’s not a welcoming experience. It’s like walking into a funeral. And how are you not going to have football on tv on a Sunday? Not even music! Just silence.
