Loved this place. I had cake and warm apple juice. They provided a traditional entertainment which was well performed and full of humour.
The staff were on bear watch and very vigilant…… and then a group of local kids came jogging through the clearing….. fearless or mad?

Was a stop in our tour, was something unique, Representing the local community and presenting a recreation of the town of the 1860 tradition and culture. We had a lunch at the end of the presentation. Rice, baked beans, coleslaw and potatoes, the best part, salmon on the grill. Love it.

This was a fun experience, but sadly the salmon was WAY overcooked, very dry! We have salmon in our home area a lot and wanted to see how good Alaskan salmon compares. Well, this salmon at least was not even close. Other parts of the meal were good, potatoes, slaw, baked beans, cornbread.
It was also cool to learn the story of Liarsville.
Assuming our experience with the salmon itself was unusual, this was a good time otherwise.

On one side of the street is the Liarsville Cookhouse where they hold the salmon “bake” which is actually grilled. A very nice guy named Bear directs the chow line. The meal consists of salad, baked beans, coleslaw, rice pilaf scalloped potatoes, barbecue chicken, and of course salmon. The dessert was corn bread or blue berry cake. The salmon was cooked too well for my taste, but the chicken was perfect.
The camp has recreated frontier tents and they look pretty authentic when compared to the gold rush era camps in California. There is a souvenir shop of course. They also have a four person show worth skits and songs. It’s pretty enjoyable.

It’s another stop offered by the cruise tours. The afternoon reminded me of being in The Boy Scouts and camping trips. Had a cookout, eating outdoors in the rain, the smell of an outdoor fireplace, hearing stories and listening to live music is what you’ll get.
There’s a gift shop heated by a wood burning furnace. It didn’t really provide much warmth and it smoked up the store, but demonstrated what life was like during the times of the Klondike Gold Rush.

Liarsville was part of a larger shore excursion we booked. We were driven out to the gold rush trail camp in the woods. It was great to learn some of the local history and Klondike gold rush lore in an entertaining setting.
First, we were treated to a brief show in their “hippodrome,” a covered tent area with log bench seats. The show was fun and funny – reminded me of something you’d see at a Renaissance Fest, a little silly, a little bawdy but fine for families. I wish it was longer – I’m not sure if it would have been longer had we not been on an organized tour.
Next, we had the chance to pan for flakes of gold. We were all given pans with pre-selected dirt and the guarantee of finding a few flakes as we swirled our pans in the water at raised tables.
Our visit ended with a salmon feast and y’all, this was where Liarsville really shined. The meal was outstanding! There was a buffet area of side items and chicken. The salmon was cooked to perfection by two attentive chefs on an open grill and the brown sugar sauce they added to the salmon and cornbread was MOUTHWATERING! We went back for seconds, and would have had a third helping if we weren’t so stuffed!
There was also a young man playing live music on guitar who was really talented and that added to the great experience.

Super fun show – it was a “typical” drizzly day in Skagway but the team brought all of the energy and excitement. The food was delicious.

Grilled salmon tasted quite good, with a nice smokey flavor. The cornbread was amazing with the glaze. It is like a buffet so you need to serve yourself. If you’re going on the salmon bake shore excursion, you’ll need to eat quick to get your money’s worth.
Some people were helped with their plates when they were finished and others were not. It reminds me of an outdoor mess hall in the middle of the woods with a camp nearby.
The walking area in the buffet area are covered in peebles and it makes it dangerous for people who cannot walk well and does not accommodate scooters or walkers.
If you guy anything from the gift shop, be aware that it smells heavily of smoke and really transferred the smell to all nearby items including the whole cruise cabin if you don’t seal it up in a plastic bag.

Not appropriate for children, the skit was cute but would have been better without the innuendo. We all are familiar with what a prostitute is, and there is no need to keep exaggerating it in the skit. The salmon was not what we anticipated, and I love to eat salmon, and this was not good. The food is served in an open buffet, and overall, it was nothing to get excited about. The actors/actresses are very passionate about their job and put on a decent show. they just need to make some changes to the overall program.

This was a stop on part of a cruise excursion. The food was not good. The salmon was mushy, no seasoning, it was cooked over a grill, so there was a wood smoke flavor, we love salmon, and this was horrible. In the dining area there was a person playing guitar and singing, also not good. On the other side of the camp is tents set up showing antiques from the era, there was a very bad “show” with bad jokes, horrible music/dancing, and not appropriate for children. You are not allowed to try gold panning until you’ve watched the show, we weren’t there long enough to try. The gift shop was underwhelming and most items are made outside of Alaska. With a lot more effort, this could be fun, but truly was a big disappointment.
