Amazing small izakaya with a really good promotion running for their prefix menu (2 appetizers, 1 meal, 1 dessert) that is super worth it. The vibes are really nice in the restaurant and the staff are really kind, attentive, and recommended great dishes! I especially enjoyed the grilled fish and fried oysters, they were both very fresh and cooked very well. I will be back!!

Zaku Izakaya has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Boston. The food was outstanding from start to finish. The skewers were grilled perfectly and full of flavor, the scallops were buttery and tender, and the short ribs were unbelievably good. Even the smaller dishes were packed with flavor, and we cleaned every plate.
The restaurant has a cozy and lively vibe that makes it perfect for a night out with friends. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and their recommendations helped us try a great variety of dishes. The pacing of the meal was just right, with everything coming out hot and fresh.
If you are looking for top quality Japanese izakaya food in Boston, this is the place to go. I am already excited to come back and try even more from their menu.

Absolutely loved this Japanese restaurant! The food is delicious with rich, well-balanced flavors, and the portion sizes are very generous. Everything we tried was excellent. One tip: don’t over-order—portions are bigger than expected and you’ll likely end up taking a lot home. Highly recommend!

During our visit to Boston from Dubai, we had the pleasure of dining at Zaku Izakaya on Columbus Avenue, and it truly turned out to be an exceptional experience. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, perfectly complementing the authentic Japanese culinary journey that awaited us.
The food was outstanding in every aspect. The okra fries were a delightful surprise crispy, flavorful, and one of the highlights of the evening. The sushi was prepared with great finesse, fresh and perfectly balanced in taste. Every dish we tried was cooked to perfection, carrying a distinct flavor that made it memorable.
What stood out most was the consistency across the entire menu; not a single dish felt ordinary. It was a complete dining experience where every plate reflected quality and attention to detail.
Zaku Izakaya is a place that leaves a lasting impression, not just for its food but also for the overall atmosphere and experience. For anyone in Boston seeking a remarkable Japanese dining spot, this restaurant is a must-visit.

Overall excellent experience. Vegetables and the vegetable dumplings were fresh and excellent, the okra and chicken breast yakitori were fantastic, and our mains: salmon teppan and beef bibimbap were terrific. Even the two cocktails we ordered were quite tasty and not too sweet. The green tea crepe dessert was also top notch – you couldn’t taste the sugar, which we like. We will be back.

Came here on New Year’s Day in the evening. We were seated quickly near the fish tank. The fish looked a little sad, but we were happy with the meal overall. Half of our group ordered the $44 prix fixe menu, which includes two appetizers from the first section, two from the second, an entree, and a dessert. It felt like a good deal for the amount of food.

They were out of the mango dessert, and one of the appetizers had chicken that was pretty fatty, but everything else was good and came out quickly, though not all at once. Dishes arrived sporadically, and there was some confusion about who ordered what, which is something we usually expect the server to help manage.

One additional downside was the bar experience. I asked for a gin and tonic and was told they couldn’t make one, which was surprising. I ended up ordering a specialty gin gimlet instead. There wasn’t much explanation or discussion about the lack of tonic, which was a bit disappointing.

Overall, a few negatives, but mostly positives. The food was solid, the staff was friendly, and the prix fixe menu was a good value. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back since we live on the other side of the city, but if I were in the area again, I’d definitely stop by.

Cozy restaurant when enter but actually the inside is quite big and beautiful. They also have a downstairs where there are many semi party rules. It’s really great for events or family, gatherings and love their selection of food and cocktails.

Overpriced sadly, and taste was just okay. We got the beef udon stir fry, udon curry, grilled yam and okra appetizers, bibimbap and grilled saba fish. For me, everything was good to mid. Won’t be coming back.

The maki rolls here are amazingly good. The sauce is great, the combination is wonderful. Like stunningly delicious. We had Joe Dragon, Buddha, soft shell crab (Krazy sth), and Tartar.

We also had beef bibimbap and steak teppan. They taste normal, not that good that you want to eat again.

The waitress is nice and kind, too.
