Solid lunch experience. Tonkatsu bento exactly as advertised and everything served hot. Miso soup together with meal instead of given before the food is a big thumbs up. Macaroni salad adds a nice touch of Hawaii. Chocolate lava cake is great— melty chocolate inside a warm cake and best of all—not too sweet!! Service was great. 6 star meal.

Izayaka in strip mall off of Lawrence in Sunnyvale. Good variety of skewers, sake, and other items.

Food: 4 Atmosphere: 3 Service: 4
Cost to worth it rating: 3 (skewers mostly
$7-15)
Opentableable: yes
Return worthiness: yes

Highlights:
– Grilled mochi: surprise hit of the night. 2 Sweet soy fiavored squares of mochi sitting on a crispy thin seaweed layer to wrap it with 4.5 stars
– Shrimp 2 full head on cooked well. 4.25 stars
– Tempura: came in a basket kind of bar style which was odd and batter wasn’t like I expected, but luckily it was a lot better then it looked. 3 nicely cooked shrimp, squash, sweet potato, and broccoli. Tempura sauce didn’t have much flavor though. 4 stars
– Tsukune: large and good texture chicken meatballs but could have more flavor. 3.75 stars
– Chicken wings: 4 large meaty flats. Wish the skin got less flabby and more crispy. 3.5 stars
– Variety of menu: appetizers, sashimi, udon, soba, don bowls
– Lots of sakes to choose from

Midlights:
– Pork belly special skewer: since wrapped with a leaf tasted more meatball which was fine but lost the beauty of pork belly meat. 3 stars
– Scallops: ok but bit overcooked. 3 stars

Lowlights:
– Chawanmushi had good texture but not much flavor. 2.5 stars

My friend recommended me to this restaurant since I have been looking for some Japanese style grill food. This restaurant has really good interior and atmosphere. The only thing is the lighting at the rear 3 divided tables are sort of dim that makes it a bit hard to read the menu since the menu is using dark color paper. The waitress was nice and really friendly. Serves the food really fast and often comes to take out the empty dishes.

The food tastes good in general, especially the grill squid. It is not overcooked and turned i to rubber band or super chewy at all. This is the one of the best grill squid I have had in the bay area.

The Enka sauce is kind of salty to me. For grill chicken skin, that is a bit too much; however, it is perfect for the chicken tight. Salt version is better in general for all.

The Chirashi Bowl tastes okay. The rice is really filled with vinegar and tastes so sour. I am not sure if the restaurant designs it that way or just the chief accidentally added too much vinegar to the rice. For some people maybe too sour to consume.

Overall, this is a great restaurant for Japanese style grill good!

Came in for lunch and the food was delicious. Service was great. We especially enjoyed the chazuke with salmon, served with a pourable broth. The dish had a lovely smoky quality, balanced by the crispy rice for contrast. The beef tongue steak and chicken wings were also highlights. Since our old tapas location changed ownership and menu, this is the new one. Definitely recommended.

Wow cute Izakaya to visit and get decent Japanese food!!! you have to try this place if you love Japan but can’t visit there often.

I came here first time for dinner on a Sunday. Luckily we got seats right away! Couldn’t tell from the exterior but once I stepped in I fell in love with the interior design! It’s warm and welcoming. It’s not a huge restaurant but I think the tables are arranged perfectly so ppl don’t have to seat too tight and enough place to order many things haha.

I have to say this even my friend laughed at me for ordering double portions….Edamame is the best I have ever tried! Even in Japan I don’t order them that much but I’m pretty sure I gonna order at least two times here as they have 3 flavors? Appetizers are all super good! I normally only order 1 or skip for appetizer at all because I never found a place serve the right Japanese appetizers (other places too many western Japanese appetizers you know lol). Sashimi are not thin cuts yeah! Fresh and yum. Skewer and grilled plates are all very good too. Must order at this place for sure.

I came back another time before I left this city for lunch. Omg it’s like travel to Japan for a lunch time! Just simple: good price with good food, who can say no to it?

Sadly I’m not from this area, but definitely gonna visit this place everytime I come back! Thank you for making my trip better with the food! Hope you guys can open one in LA

Dined in on a Wednesday night, decently busy and still had great service and delicious food. We didn’t order that many dishes but every dish was great. Seafood tasted very fresh and clean, chicken thighs and steak cooked very well. We also really enjoyed the duck breast. Definitely would come back again to try more dishes!

I am glad that we decided to give this place a try. Since we came during lunch time, we ordered wagyu beef bento, unagi don, with some appetizer. All delicious! The tea set they use really pretty. I love drinking tea from real ceramic tea set. This place giving me the vibes that we’re dining in Japan. The decors and even the drinks, reminded me of eateries in Tokyo. Our waitress, Stephanie, very efficient and friendly. Our experience dining here is pleasant. We will be back again!

The food was in general ok in terms of the price, but nothing too special for this Izakaya. There was a small sting in my sashimi which was definitely not ok for me. The assorted tempura might be my favorite among all of the dishes we ordered. The skewer for chicken skin was good but the skewer for the thigh was a bit overcooked. The beef tongue steak tasted right but it wasn’t warm enough.

Good place to come if you are looking for something different than you normal routine places. We really enjoyed the beef tongue steak. Grilled foods all have nice charcoal flavor. I would also recommend the pouch egg uni shot.

Randomly decided to come here after going to Tokyo a couple months ago and missing authentic Japanese foods. While it’s not Tokyo level, it hits the spot for sure when you’re missing that Izakaya style food. They have reverse happy hour which is always great. We ordered many types of skewers and small plates. The wagyu with uni skewer was a hit as well as the chicken thighs. The mushroom skewer was good but small. The scallop skewer was delicious but overcooked, but we would try it again. The Yuba shots were interesting but I wouldn’t get it again. The tempura and gyoza was on point. The Gyutan Beef was really good and I would get it again and again. Overall extremely happy with this place and we would come again to try out more of the menu.

The biggest criticism I have about this place is that while they serve Suntory beer, there’s no Suntory highball on the menu like a traditional izakaya would have. Not a deal breaker at all but I would love to see that included on the menu one day.
