My partner and I enjoyed the shared tomahawk steak, and it was melt in your mouth perfection!
Service was wonderful- Cooper was lovely and ensured our glasses remained full.
Our waitress- I’ve forgotten her name, lovely blonde with blue eyes- superb service. Very friendly, attentive and professional. Her wine recommendation was spot on!
The view was gorgeous, and atmosphere was lovely.
I feel the tables were just a little too close, and the sense of intimacy was lost a little when another couple were seated beside us.
But overall a beautiful experience and we will be back.

We were excited to have Christmas Eve dinner at Nioka but our experience was not good to be honest. We specifically chose this restaurant as they had a wide range of good quality wagyu meats.

We ordered for entree the house cured bresola which was nice as me and my partner enjoyed it. For mains, we ordered the DIAMANTINA PUREBRED WAGYU – eye of rump $95 and the KAGOSHIMA A5 JAPANESE WAGYU – Denver Cut $195 which we ordered both MEDIUM RARE. When we receive our steaks, we notice that our eye of rump was close to medium well with some part well done as you can see in the picture above. We politely asked one of the staff that the steak is close to medium well or well done which the staff was very accommodating and said would call the manager to check. As the manager came in and checked on us, we told if we could have the eye of the rump redone as we asked for MEDIUM RARE which was clearly not. The manager did not even look at the steak and explained that chefs do temperature checks on the steaks so even though it does not visually look like what we have expected, it should be medium rare. On her response, we (as a polite guest) were just saying that no problem as we continued to dine on our expensive steaks. In my opinion, was really dissappointed on the service the manager displayed as she was not accomodating on checking on the steak or even though trying to fix the issue. My partner is a chef and although I am not an expert, I would say that the steak was close to medium rare or well done as I can see how steaks work. I would say the Kagoshima wagyu steak was medium rare and was great. Just a feedback I would like to address. My experience does not match the price of the steak. Had been to a lot of wagyu steak places which I do enjoy more compared to here. Sorry for the feedback but this is only my opinion. Thank you!

Fine dining at its best.
We had wagu steaks that were cooked perfectly medium rare.
For desert we had panacotta and crème brulée. The panacotta was not your usual upside down cup but in a flat dish but still had wobble and tasted great. I personally preferred the crème brulée.
The service was great with waiters asking a few times throughout the night if everything was ok.
Would definitely consider returning here next time we are in Newcastle.

A great atmosphere with nice views and felt cosy during the evening light.

The food was wonderful and cooked as expected, the desserts were great and a nice finish to the Bistecca Fiorentina.

The staff were very helpful and took the time to talk with us. Very knowledgeable with the menu and took the time to help plan our next menu plan for our next visit.

I can’t wait to come back when I am in Newcastle next.

We tried Nioka Steakhouse for the first time yesterday after I had a very specific yearning that only Miyazaki A5 Japanese Wagyu could cure. Not just a steak. A moment.

Arrival was slightly confusing. You walk in and you’re on a lower platform with no one around, and for a second we wondered if we’d accidentally entered through the staff entrance or unlocked a secret level of the restaurant. But within a few minutes we were warmly seated and all was well in the world.

The location is beautiful. The vibe feels like the venue of a very well funded private school Year 10 formal. Polished, clean, classic. No neon signs. No white arches. No trying too hard. Just quiet confidence.

We ordered:

• Bresaola
• Corn risotto
• Fremantle octopus
• Grilled jumbo prawns
• Honey roasted carrots
• Hand cut chips
• And of course, the Miyazaki A5 Japanese Wagyu

The chips and carrots were exactly what you want them to be. Dependable. Delicious. No drama.

The bresaola was dangerously good. The kind of thing I could eat daily and justify as a “light protein moment.”

The octopus was beautifully cooked, tender without being chewy. The prawns were genuinely jumbo and packed with flavour.

Now the corn risotto. We ordered it because it sounded slightly confusing. Corn? Risotto? Together? And yet it was perfectly balanced and surprisingly refined. A supporting act that absolutely held its own.

But the A5.

The A5 was the main character.

Perfectly cooked. Melt in your mouth. Rich without being overwhelming. The kind of steak you think about the next morning while brushing your teeth. The kind of steak that makes you question every other steak you’ve ever eaten.

we couldn’t decide on a side sauce so ended up getting 3 and compound butter one was our fav

Overall, a beautiful experience. Great food, classic atmosphere, and a steak that absolutely delivered on the craving.

Would return. For research purposes, obviously.

We were excited to try Nioka for our anniversary lunch today and were really disappointed.

We ordered the Wet Aged Tomahawk 1.1kg medium rare and it was far from expectations for $185 price tag.
It was not only undercooked, it was very chewy and full of fat. We struggled to eat half of it. To be honest, I’ve had better steaks at my local bowling club.
The service was good, as was the baked gnocchi with smoked cheese and the view was nice.
We don’t mind paying high prices for exceptional food but this wasn’t even close. Sadly, we won’t be returning.

Nioka Steakhouse TLDR: Excellent food, great atmosphere, priced for a variety of occasions. If you can muster up the group for it, highly recommend the private dining room.

Sourdough with Coppertree Whipped Butter: 4/5- Solid, no complaints, bread was fresh, butter was creamy smooth and lightly seasoned

Small plates: 4.5/5
Pan Fried Potato gnocchi: 5/5- no contest my favourite of the small plates, perfectly crisp, amazing flavour, well rounded plate with some greens
Seared scallops: 3.5/5- not a fan of scallops typically, the dish would have to be amazing to garner a high rating anywhere, especially for the price they often drum up.
Roasted Bone Marrow w/ Sourdough: 5/5- Amazing! a table favourite, such that we ordered a second serving. Silky texture, rich fatty flavour that paired perfectly with sourdough.
Bresaola: 3.5/5- first time having bresaola and pleasantly surprised. Nutty/crunchy elements paired nicely with the meat layer on the bottom and the shaved pecorino romano on top.
Soft shell crab: 4/5- Nice crisp batter, really balanced plate. Went beautifully with the lime aioli, and celeriac freshened the dish up, well presented.
Sicilian style grilled octopus: 4/5- nicely tender, subtle chili warmth, wouldn’t say that it was at all spicy, tomato complimented the gentle smokiness of the octopus

Beef: 4.5/5
Icon XB Australian Wagyu Striploin: MVP, exceptional, tender, great fat distribution and for the price, 6/5 no question.
Miyazaki A5 Japanese Wagyu: 4.5/5- beautiful marbling, smooth as butter and gone in an instant.
Dry aged Bistecca: 5/5-Showtopper, beautifully intense, doesn’t benefit greatly from any additional sauces due to its natural flavour and still some meat to hack off at on the bone if you don’t mind getting primal.
Wet aged Tomahawk: 5/5- Tender, flavourful, plentiful. In my opinion this steak paired best with the sauces, of which the best was the Chimichurri.

Tiramisu: 5/5- This dessert was amazing, and on the night, I helped myself to more than one serving. The espresso glaze is very rich, the team deliver it separately so that you can choose just how influential it is on your final dish of the night. For some, and only for some it may be too rich, so advisable not to dump all of the glaze on there before you try some. Tiramisu itself is amazing, fluffy, sweet, and appropriately portioned.

Overall highly recommend dining at Nioka. Whilst we tried just about everything on the night, you can definitely visit on a range of occasions depending on the preferred price point. Waitstaff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Wait time was extremely fast considering how many things we ordered, had they taken longer I would still say it would be more than reasonable. One item I would love to try next time is the 12h hour brisket. One item I wouldn’t get again is the Scallops, to be honest they just aren’t my thing. One thing I would get every time is the Icon XB Aus Wagyu, no matter the occasion the quality at that price is amazing.

Had the pleasure to dine here for my one year anniversary, and the food was amazing, the best steak I’ve ever had, it was cooked perfectly. The entrees and sides complemented the dish perfectly. Our waiter Alyssa suggested a perfect wine to compliment and her service was perfect all night.
