One of the 3 best omakases I’ve had the in US along with Uchi in Austin and Sushi Nakazawa in DC — this might be the best. The place is cozy, so the omakase almost felt like a private dining experience. Every single fish was fresh and delicious. The items are nonstop — amazing dish after dish. My favorite non-nigiri item was a broth steeped with a prawn. No words can further describe the experience — go try it. Thank you, Chef Kijima!

A very cozy Omakase experience! The sushi is super fresh and you can feel the Chef’s creativity. The restaurant allow you to bring in your own beverages, another plus.

Vastly enjoyed the dishes and the chef’s service to accommodate for my Mom’s tastes. If you have a chance, definitely take the time to make the reservation and don’t forget to BYOB!

Probably one of the coolest hidden gems I’ve found in Kailua town so far. It’s definitely a challenge to find it, but once you do, you won’t be sorry. It’s quaint and tiny inside but it’s beautiful and the food smells so good.
It’s cooked directly in front of you and cooked to absolute perfection. There is only a handful of seats at the bar to sit at so reservations are recommended if coming at a busy hour. If coming at night for Omakase, you must make a reservation.
The food was SUPERB. 10/10

Dining at 22 Kailua was nothing short of magical. From the moment we walked in, we were wrapped in a sense of calm elegance—with soft lighting and the gentle hum of happy conversations setting the tone for an unforgettable night. Every dish felt like a love letter to the islands. The ahi crudo was delicate and bright, bursting with flavor in the most graceful way. The butter-poached lobster was rich, soulful, and beautifully balanced—each bite melted like a dream. But it wasn’t just the food. The warmth of the chef, the passion in every plate, and the attention to detail made it feel personal—like a special evening crafted just for us. 22 Kailua isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a culinary experience full of heart. One you’ll remember long after the last bite. Pure love. 5 stars.

I had an amazing birthday dinner here with my boyfriend. The flavor combinations were like nothing I have ever tried anywhere on island. 22 truly has a unique dining experience. I was nervous about not being full after our courses but that was not the case. The protein to rice proportions were perfection. Don’t forget to BYOB!

I get that they want Reservations. That is great for a private club or home where they want to know who is coming before buying g groceries. However, to deny single patrons because they don’t have a reservation is a bit crazy to me. I assume they make enough money so they don’t care but if you are a visitor and don’t have a reservation don’t bother.

Came here on Christmas Eve and had a wonderful experience! Got a last minute reservation which I was worried about on Christmas Eve. Chef and sous chef are so nice and food was amazing! An awesome experience that we missed out on in Japan so we are so glad we could do it here – and in Kailua, so we didn’t have to drive all the way to town!! Everything was so fresh, from Japan, and prepared so well. Highly recommend!

A very rare and solid five stars. Also well deserved. I love sushi but have never loved it like this. Ignorance is bliss, and if you love sushi and want to be satisfied with what you think is good, stay away from this place. But if you want to know what real sushi is on another level, do whatever you can to check out 22 Kialua. Almost life changing. I’ve never really liked uni, but theirs was delightful. It was also pleasant to look at. Something usually not enjoyed. Every aspect of this place is amazing. Six stars across the board if I could. Each offering was delicious, flavorful and amazing. Each had its own unique care and delivery that shows the masterful art that is delivered with every piece. I will return, but until then, I will not find sushi on this level.

This is a better omakase than in NYC, and like many others commented it is on par with Japan. I very much enjoyed here every course, and I highly recommend it. I also appreciated that the premium course had abalone and abalone liver, because that also speaks to omakase traditions.
