As a new business in Glenwood Georgia, we are excited to be opening 2nd Ave Steakhouse. We had to try this new restaurant in a this small town of mostly fast food. The atmosphere was delightful and the service was great. Unfortunately, the star of the show (the food) was underwhelming.
Surprisingly, the basket of bread was store-bought pull-apart dinner rolls. For the menu prices, I expected something fresh-baked. The soup (seafood bisque) was creamy and delicious. The main courses, however, were unsatisfying.
When the food arrived at our table, it looked amazing and was steamy-hot. But the shrimp on the linguini were tough and rubbery and the Alfredo sauce tasted like it came from a can. The fried cod was not only greasy, but had the texture of poor quality frozen fish (spongy, watery, and bland). The baked sweet potato was the hi-light of meal tho – steamy, sweet, and cooked to perfection.
Oh, and we both had upset stomachs later that evening.
For $50 for a dinner for 2 (with no dessert of alcohol), we expected better quality food. 5-stars for atmosphere and service, for 2-stars for the good.

Meltz Down
The service was on point. The clam chowder was really good. The seafood dip was so so. And we got the steamed seafood dish with muscles and shrimp and lobster. lobster was pretty tough. The shrimp was okay. The muscles were good. The bread was crispy and dry. overall, the food was really good. And we ordered a cheesecake. It was tiny and almost $10! That was the deal breaker right there. $10!? Are you kidding me? The entire meal, without the dessert, was $35. Perfect! The cheese steak blew the whole experience. Unbelievable! Pretty sure it wasn’t made in house. Haven’t even tried it yet. We got it to go. It better be the best cheesecake I’ve ever stuffed in my mouth! Doubtful. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth, because of the overpricing. Not many options in McRae. I get it. We came down from Atlanta to a funeral and had very few choices. We know food, and I’m actually a chef. That’s over 25% of the entire bill! Scam!

Our visit was by reservation for a Friday night at 6:15. We arrived, graciously greeted and seated within 60 seconds. Waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable of menu. Every question was understood and answered. She was adept at small talk, pleasantries. We had two appetizers and both arrived at appropriate times. Salads arrived fresh, crisp lettuces and with toppings as requested. We requested different types of salads and each given to correct person (She did not guess). Steak, crab legs, and an Italian dish each given to the right person. Each dish was excellent in presentation and taste. Portion size more than ample. If there is corner/cost cutting you certainly won’t observe. The ambience of a fine steak house not so observable on the outside but quite nice inside. Quiet atmosphere and conversations are easy to have without distractions of the business operations. I observed all waitresses were giving similar service to others. We all were so pleased that the gratuity exceeded the norms. We are so pleased to have a “nice place” to take others for a rememberable evening. Glenwood is so fortunate.

Great place in McRae-Helena, GA. They have really good steak and seafood, and the service is always friendly and fantastic. The cinnamon butter with the rolls is especially delicious. I can’t wait until they bring back their Salt Life menu (4-course meal: soup, salad, entree, dessert). We really enjoy this place and highly recommend it!

The food was delicious and the portions generous. The steak was cooked as I requested. The service could not have been any better and the waitress served us like we were the only people in the restaurant. She certainly made us feel welcome. There were no negative comments from anyone in our group.

Had our Christmas dinner for work here!! Everything was cooked exactly as ordered. My soup, salad, steak, baked potato, and cheesecake were all delicious!!! Our waitresses were amazing as well!! Can’t say enough about the cheesecake!!

My family and I have eaten both dine-in and takeaway. Each time we are amazed that we can get big-city-quality food right here at home!! I would recommend this restaurant. They are ready to accommodate and treat anything from a dating couple to a family with kids.

Wow Glenwood do you know how lucky you are to have Chef Harry??? Harry was one of the very top chefs in the pennsylvania new jersey area prior to his move to georgia. We all miss your amazing delicious dishes! All your restaurants were outstanding.
