Y’all!! I found it, the CHEAPEST lunch in the Lou, and it doesn’t even rely on cheap carb basics like heaps of rice or pasta or bread!! I stopped in to try their sambusas since I’d never had Somalian cuisine as far as I knew. Upon entering there was a small grocery selection, but a quick walk straight back through the beaded curtain led to the restaurant.
I ordered two sambusas for $1.99 each and waited for a few minutes as delivery drivers
came and went while some locals ate. This is definitely a hole in the wall kind of place if you decide to dine in, but there’s a decent amount of seating.
In any case, a few minutes later the young lady working the restaurant brought my to-go bag out, and imagine my surprise when it included a free bottle of water and a banana! I mean, were not talking about top-dollar stuff here, but I literally only spent $3.98 on my purchase pre-tax. The water and banana alone would cost twice that where I work.
If you want to try something new, on a dime, this is a decent lunch for four dollars! What an absolute bargain.
(And just as importantly, the sambusas were delicious! My favorite was the beef. Expect a curry-adjacent flavor profile with a slight kick and a deeper flavor profile than Caribbean or Indian curries, in my opinion.)

Absolutely delicious! Food was seasoned to perfection. I got the tilapia filets with fufu. Completely devoured the entire dish. I would also recommend getting the chicken sombusa appetizer, I got 4 extra to take home.

Super unassuming from the outside. The food was amazing and we had so much left over! The young man at the restaurant counter was very helpful. Have the dine in experience because we had a great time ordering everything we thought we wanted to taste. We purchased a couple of things from the store up front and had an overall good experience.

A small restaurant space in the back of a store. Definitely lots of authentic Somali food as I tried the goat for a first time (will go with Chicken next time). Service was friendly and the rice was excellent. It lost a star as it could have been a little more clean (e.g. wash the dirt off the doors/wall and hang the fly catcher tape somewhere other than the dinning area)

My daughter, and myself decided to try Somalian food on Christmas Eve for the 1st time. What a complete winner! My daughter picked fish, rice, and salad. I tried ugali (stiff porridge), goat meat and salad. We enjoyed our food, and will be back! I loved the packed bottles of water with a banana for each of us. Very healthy, and a nice finishing touch. Thank you Darba!

Not recommended if you’re expecting Somali hospitality. The staff don’t greet you in Somali even when you speak it, and they come off cold and unfriendly. It’s called a Somali restaurant, but the vibe says otherwise. If you’re new to St. Louis or just passing through, this place doesn’t reflect the warmth we’re known for.
