I’m going to start by saying I know the owners personally, but I will not be biased in my review. The food is delicious! I love fried fish and Paula’s fried fish is the bomb! My sister, the girls, and I came down to the restaurant for the first time. The portions are huge for the price you pay…definitely worth it. We didn’t have one complaint and the tea is better than Bush’s Chicken’s tea (and I love some Bush’s tea…lol)…so that’s saying something. The tea is her own special recipe packaged in cute lil bottles with her grandbaby on the front which is the inspiration for the name of the tea (she calls her grandbaby “Suga”).

I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while, and after going in with my wife, we were pleasantly surprised at how good the quality of their food was.
The menu is straightforward and has you pick the entree and sides, with different plans (1 meat / 2 sides, 1 meat / 3 sides, 2 meats, and so on). Signature dishes of soul food like collard greens, smoked ribs, fried chicken, fried fish, pork chops, and others are available. I tried the smoked ribs and they were to die for; so tender they were falling off the bones, juicy with a nice crust on the outside, and a smokey flavor that didn’t taste overwhelming and complemented the rest. Their greens are great, homemade style and well seasoned. The portions are all quite generous too, we got the smallest ones and we still had leftovers. Great price per portion ratio.
The inside is warm and comfy, all chairs are cushioned and you can sit back and relax while you enjoy your food; this said, the decorations inside could be a bit better. Service was great and the owners were friendly.
For beverages, their sweet tea is brewed by them too, and isn’t just some over sugary Lipton, but a nice sweet tea with tones of lemon and honey, it’s more balanced than sweet tea you’ll find around, I didn’t get tired of drinking it. Goes perfectly with the food.
Overall this is a great soul food place to go if you’re in Temple. It’s a bit hidden, but don’t let it go under your radar. Give ’em a chance and they won’t disappoint.

This place is back open and the food is bussin! (I’m too old to use that word) The food was great, the folks there were friendly as well. I went with my wife and daughter and I got to sample a bit of everything. I tried fried ribs for the first time and they were great, the dressing was moist and didn’t even need cranberry sauce, the sweet potatoes were perfect, the Mac and cheese was done right (iykyk), and my wife wouldn’t share the greens so I’ll go back and try later. I will tell you that they are still doing a bit of work inside but that food and customer service shined brighter than their temporary improvement stuff. Gt the sweet tea too! I’m full and sleepy!

This is my First time eating at PJs and I got 3 little party wings for a combo due to him stating they were out of the whole chicken wings. I am very disappointed and not happy because you could have adjusted price or gave more wings or something. The Mac and cheese was not good at all! I did love the greens and cabbage!

This establishment is cozy, food is phenomenal! It’s so hard choosing from their selected dishes. I originate from Mississippi, and PJ’S remind me of back home. No matter what food I pick I always order a gallon of their Teaide to go. If you’re in the Temple area give them a try.

Me and my husband are truck drivers and have been to all 48 states. I promise on everything I love THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST FOOD we have ever tasted. Everything was perfect! If they had a cooking school, I’d quit my job and sign up! We will definitely be eating here again! Thank y’all sooo much!

While traveling to Austin Texas from Colorado we stopped at PJ’s. What a great place! They are located to the far right if you are facing the VFW building, just through the double glass doors.
The dining room is big and immaculate! There are pool tables and a nice touch screen jukebox with a wide variety of music. The restrooms were super clean too with plenty of stalls.
You order at the counter and then take your seat. Drinks and food are delivered to the table once ready. PJ and his wife were super helpful with menu questions. There were 4 of us, we had the fried fish, smoked ribs, collards & cabbage, mac & cheese, broccoli rice, cornbread & sweet tea. EVERYTHING was delicious!
Between the atmosphere the food and the ultra sweet owners this place is a MUST!!!!

Took a few minutes to find them. There are not downtown Temple Tx. They are now located at the VFW on Adams though well worth it. We both did the two meat and two sides. My wife had Wings and Pork Chop with Mac -cheese and greens I had Fish and Pork Chop with Green Beans and Greens. Enjoy and will be back…..

I really love this place and it was my second time here but today since they were out of the regular whole chicken wings they only gave you 3 party wings. When usually u get the whole wing. I think they could have compensated a little better instead of the 3 little ones. I did ask for the wings to be fried hard and they were not. I would have stayed longer to let them know but I was on my lunch break from work. Sadly disappointed
