Reviews
I also ordered 2 cabbage rolls to go, and I was treated to a piece of baklava as well.
Shawarma Shack was clean and well-kept. There was plenty of space, and a variety of tables, 4-tops, counter, and 2-tops.
I can’t wait to return, and I’m ashamed it took me so long to visit!
Food was outstanding and the service was great.
Not having been there before, I opted for the Chicken Schwarma platter and a cabbage roll on the side.
The platter had the chicken and rice, a generous serving of tabouli and hummus with 4 pieces of pita.
The schwarma was really well done. Plenty of flavor, gently spiced and cooked well, with the meat still having a good amount of moisture. There’s such a fine margin with breast meat. The rice was equally well executed, being a dark yellow in color and boasting a gently spiced flavor.
The tabouli was tangy, fresh and hit the spot. Although I prefer tabouli with more wheat in it, this was outstanding.
The hummus was pretty much smooth, tasty creamy heaven, hitting every right note it needed to.
The cabbage roll was just fantastic. Plenty big, amply stuffed and not smothered in ketchupy tomato sauce like some tend to be. The meat was delicately seasoned and very savory. The cabbage well cooked and tender, despite which the roll held together.
The hostess/server was delightful and helped me make up my mind on selections, suggesting I try the falafel. On any given day, I like a good falafel, but today the carnivore in me won out.
I did see after the fact that they have kibbeh and kafta, so that’s for the next trip.
Altogether, with tag, title and tax, it was just over $23, which was a tad steep for lunch, but thats on me because I got the extra cabbage roll.
All things considered, great place, nice people and outstanding food. Shame I had to go to Busted Arrow to get it.
The food is delicious! Good quality ingredients and tastes very fresh. The hummus is way better than anything you could buy in-store. The portions for the platters are generous. I personally didn’t like the Lebanese Nights, it was a bit too floral for me personally, others may like it, it just wasn’t for me.
Service:
Since I was a dine out, it was pretty straightforward. Order the food, wait, receive the food, get out. Everyone was very kind, I felt welcome.
The Lebanese version of these very common Mediterranean, Middle Eastern dishes had prominent flavors of what cinnamon, nutmeg garlic and black pepper. A delicious and slightly different seasoned version of some of my favorite dishes!
DETAILS: A friend recommended us to try this, so we made the 26 minute drive from Jenks to try it out. The food is definitely its strongest suit – we had the shawarma and falafel, and it’s much better than any middle-eastern food we’ve had elsewhere in Tulsa metro. Dolmas and cabbage rolls were also good.
Main ding for us was pricing. The $17 price for the shawarma platter, something that we had to line up and order ourselves… that’s the price for a dish at a sit-down place for most restaurants locally. Add to that the fact that portions were skimpy. I was also expecting higher quality pita bread, not something out of a bag bought in bulk at a store. Eating the food on foam plates, plastic ware, and paper boats, also took away from the experience.
Bottomline is that the price doesn’t match the product and experience. Not sure if we’ll be back, we will see.
