They have some top tier liquor and plenty of old favorites at a great prices! My wife and I gofor tastings often and always have a great time!
Did I mention the whiskey selection? Trey is killing it here.
The atmosphere is the standout feature. It’s Christmas year-round, and the quirky décor immediately sets the tone the moment you walk in. From holiday ornaments to festive touches everywhere you look, it feels playful, nostalgic, and intentionally over-the-top in the best dive-bar way.
Whether you stop in during July, New Year’s Eve, or an ordinary weeknight, the holiday vibe instantly puts people in a good mood. It’s the kind of bar where strangers end up chatting, laughing, and playing games together without effort.
Drinks are another major strength. Prices are very reasonable especially compared to other Tampa bars and the pours are solid. There’s an impressive selection of liquor for a dive bar, particularly when it comes to bourbon and whiskey, including some higher-end options you wouldn’t expect at these prices. Signature holiday shots, including the famous Jolly shots served in Christmas ornaments, add a fun and memorable twist. Whether you’re in the mood for a simple beer, a strong cocktail, or a specialty shot, Joy Bar delivers strong value.
The bartenders and staff are generally excellent and often mentioned by name in reviews. Most guests describe them as friendly, fast, welcoming, and genuinely fun to interact with. Regulars clearly feel at home here, and newcomers are usually made to feel welcome quickly. The service style fits the dive bar vibe casual, efficient, and personality-driven rather than polished or corporate.
Joy Bar also offers plenty to do, which keeps people hanging around longer. Pool tables are well maintained, karaoke nights are popular, and there’s just enough organized chaos to keep the energy lively without feeling overwhelming. It’s an ideal place to unwind after dinner, kick off a night out, or spend hours socializing without watching the clock.
That said, this is still a true dive bar, and that’s where the 4-star rating comes in. A few guests mention occasional service hiccups, isolated attitude issues, or inconsistencies during busy nights. Some also note that certain areas like bathrooms or general bar upkeep could use a little extra attention.
Karaoke setup and sound quality have drawn mixed feedback, and the smell inside has been mentioned by a small number of guests. These aren’t deal-breakers for most people, but they are noticeable depending on expectations.
Bottom line:
Joy Bar is a fun, affordable, personality-packed dive bar with a unique Christmas theme that sets it apart from everything else in town. Great prices, strong drinks, friendly bartenders, pool tables, and a lively crowd make it an easy place to enjoy yourself. While it’s not polished or perfect and doesn’t try to be ,it excels at what it’s meant to be.
If you love dive bars, holiday vibes, and good drinks without pretension, Joy Bar is absolutely worth the stop. A strong 4-star experience that delivers fun, value, and character in spades.
The drinks were great and I was loving the Christmas theme!! You really can’t beat the drink prices. Will definitely be back!!!
Everyone else in the party knew it was wrong – we were a bit embarrassed to be honest – so we just wanted to make things right, pay for that round, and leave.
The bartender unnecessarily escalated the situation. She screamed as loudly as she could at us to leave despite us being compliant, throwing profanities at us and making a whole song and dance about “calling the cops.”
Her actions caused some of the regulars to get upset and into a frenzy. One of our friends – who had been nothing but polite – was physically pushed and shoved out of the bar.
Simply put, this is how bad things happen. There was absolutely no need for the sophomoric outburst by the bartender. We were all aware what happened was wrong & just wanted to do the right thing and pay our part before leaving. If you can’t handle the foolish actions of an inebriated person, perhaps being a bartender isn’t the job for you.
Incredibly disappointed as this was my first time there & it was being hyped up by all my friends. Won’t be back.
We immediately tried to resolve the situation by explaining what happened and offering to pay for all of the shots she was preparing. Instead of listening or allowing us to make it right, the bartender began yelling and screamed, “Get out of my bar” and used profanity I’m assuming this girl is the owner??
Our group had been paying customers all night and did not deserve to be treated in such a hostile and unprofessional manner. Because of this experience, I would not recommend this place to anyone.
