The food was good overall, but the service was about three-star. The first time we went, we sat at the bar and had to ask multiple times just to get our water refilled. We also had to flag the bartender down for a to-go box and the check. The cocktails were honestly pretty bad. Not trying to be rude, but the lychee berry martini was very unbalanced and hard to drink.
The second time we visited, we were told we couldn’t sit at the bar table, even though it was completely empty, because we weren’t a party of six. We ended up sitting in the dining area to follow their rules. Once again, the food was good, but the cocktail was a miss. This time it was the spicy margarita, which tasted like watered-down lime juice with spice. I couldn’t finish it, it was so gross. Additionally, there was very little service beyond taking our order, dropping off the food, and bringing the check.
If they’re going to offer cocktails, they really should invest in someone who knows how to craft them properly. Between the lack of attentive service and the disappointing drinks, it was frustrating- especially since the food itself was solid.

Very nice dining, great place for date night or to take your family. Cool chairs and artwork to look at. The people that work there are super sweet and helpful, the food is excellent, veggies are crisp/colorful/fresh, love the mapo tofu! Dumplings are wonderful esp XLBs and chili pork. We love the downtown location but we like this one better and we’ll definitely be back!

The service was top-notch, and a special shout-out to our server Jing Yi, who was incredible and truly made the night memorable. She was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. She even took the BEST photos!

Having gone to university in Boston I was spoiled with an establishment called Gourmet Dumpling House. It was the absolute best Chinese cuisine I had the pleasure to experience in my life. After leaving Boston and their closure to the pandemic I’ve been searching for a proper replacement for years to no avail. I recently became aware Xing Ding Dumpling House in Sellwood and after going there I can now say I’ve found Gourmet Dumpling House’s equal.
The menu is large, and there are a variety of options. If you’ve got gluten intolerant, or plant based friends you’ll find there’s a plethora of options for everyone.
To give an example of how good the food is my partner is famously spicy-food intolerant. The menu denotes spice on the amount of pepper symbols on it. She decided something with one spice symbol looked really good, but she was afraid to get it. I encouraged her to go for it as worst case scenario I’ll eat it for her since I’m a pepper head. It was the first dish I’ve ever seen her enjoy so much she said the spice was worth it.
In short, just go. It’s ridiculously well priced for what you get too with portions being fantastic. If anything you’ll be a bit frozen on what to order due to the size of the menu. Xing Ding Dumpling House just made Sellwood that much more awesome by its presence.
One thing to note is when walking in there is no one to check you in. There is a tablet/iPad that you use to put your name down to be seated. You enter in your details, like name, phone number, party size and wait for your name to be called. It’s very efficient. It’s just like operating a smart phone so don’t over think it. To be clear you want to stay in ear-shot of the hostess stand as they only call your name, they don’t actually text your phone. Your phone will only get a text saying you are now in line. If you aren’t present when your party’s name is called they move onto the next listed party.

This is an amazing addition to the neighborhood. Better than Dough Zone and Din Tai Fung, I’ll never leave Sellwood again for Dim Sum! The Xiao Long Bao were just as good as anywhere else, and the stir fried beef and onion entree was one of the most tender and delicious Chinese beef dishes I’ve ever had. Atmosphere and drinks were great as well. We will be back!!!

Xin Ding restaurant is my go to whenever I craved Chinese cuisine. The handmade pork dumplings are the undisputed stars here—you can taste the craft in every bite. The dough is perfect, and the filling is incredibly flavorful. The bar program is as impressive as it gets too.They have an extensive selection that goes way beyond the basics. Highly recommend!

Service was very friendly and seating was fast.
The menu is extensive , containing dumplings and a WHOLE LOT MORE!
The dumplings ordered were expertly steamed —soft and pillowy with a tasty filling. The garlic rib bites were excellent—definitely garlicky and cooked to perfection.
Prices were reasonable for the quality of food served.
Again, this restaurant space is huge –no problem in accommodating larger groups or busy times!
Handicap easy!

So glad I finally checked this out! The BBQ pork buns were fantastic, as were the pork soup dumplings. The DanDan noodles were really nice to share. I recommend getting the hot and sour cucumber as an appetizer. The dessert buns were warm and delicious as well. Really good portions of food too. We had great, friendly service and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. I will definitely be back!

I was blown away by this meal. I’m still thinking about it 2 days after visiting! I loved the sweet and sour chicken. The green beans with garlic was out of this world! I loved the pork and leek potstickers too. The service was outstanding. Happy and friendly. The place was packed. I’m so happy for you! Keep up the excellent work!
