An early Saturday evening first visit to Kathmandu and wow was if worth it. From emailing earlier in the week, as I have a health condition I needed to let them know about, to paying our bill, it was hands down one of our best dining out experiences.
An excellent drink and wine menu gave us the perfect start.
A good choice on the menu for starters gives a chance to try authentic Nepalese street food through to the old tikka favourites, and everything in between.
We were afforded a slow service as we had asked and at no point felt rushed through our variety of starters.
However good the start of our evening, it was about to go up a level. The mains are the star of the show. We shared a very tender well cooked mix grill. I went for the stuffed butter chicken and my wife had the duck grill masala. We also had a portion of daal makhani, a favourite of mine usually but this was next level. Every item on our plates was cooked very well with enough spice to flavour but without any over powering heat which can take over the dish.
The staff were attentive without going over the top, and it’s always good to see an owner walk the floor speaking to his guests and helping with the menu.
First impressions for us were outstanding and we will soon be back.
Thank you Kris and the team

We went to Kathmandu Lounge for dinner on Thursday, Oct 9. The welcome was lovely — the waitress greeted us with a beautiful smile and guided us to our table.

When the waiter came to take our order, my colleague asked about vegan options. Unfortunately, the waiter seemed unsure and even recommended paneer for a vegan option, which was surprising since paneer is made from milk. After I mentioned that, he suggested saag instead.

We ordered one saag with a side salad, butter chicken with naan, and goat curry with rice, plus one garlic naan without butter for my vegan friend. The food was served nicely and looked good overall. The saag and butter chicken were both tasty, but the goat curry was extremely oily and tasted more like lamb than goat.

When the waiter came to check on us, I mentioned the curry was oily — he just said “okay” and walked away. Later, my friend spoke with the owner, Krishna, who insisted it was goat and said, “I have 22 years of experience.” Still, the taste and quality didn’t feel right, and the feedback wasn’t taken seriously.

What disappointed us most is that the owner himself was present, yet there was no apology or offer to replace the dish. Staff are staff, but when the owner behaves that way, it reflects poorly on the whole place. Even at the end, when I mentioned again that the curry was oily, the waiter questioned us instead of showing concern.

Overall, the restaurant not bad and it was friendly start, but the staff should improve their product knowledge and the way they handle customer feedback. A little more attention and professionalism would make a big difference.

Kind regards,
Niel

Stayed overnight in Peterborough for business and wanted something different to hotel meal so asked google. Just down from Cathedral in pedestrian area.
It was early on Monday so not many people about.
Menu was interesting with range of dish from obviously Nepalese to more main stream Indian, some regular English and a fun little kids menu.
I had a stuffed butter chicken, Jeera rice and Bombay also. Amazing.
Flavours were excellent, rich sauces, intricate spicing which you could taste. Great presentation .
Whole place was spotlessly clean, you need sunglasses in the rest room they sparkled so brightly.
Quality was the aim, even down to the amazing crockery.
Wish I lived closed to visit with friends and family.
Will return if in area.
Well done and keep it up
