I had just finished a hike at Panthertown and as I was coming through Cashiers I saw a long line. Then I saw the sign for “on the side bbq”, I figured I’d try it out. I tried to call in an order but you have be ordering a minimum of 5 sandwiches or 5 pounds of meat. I didn’t understand at first but once I got in line it all made since .
Do not let the line dissuade you from ordering as it moves quickly . Grab a menu and know what you want before you get to the window . This is a walk up and order spot , then take your food wherever you like to enjoy it .
I got the beef brisket sandwich with sweet bbq sauce ,Cole slaw , bag of chips and a water . You order quickly , stand to the side and before you know it , you have your order . I went to the little area not too far away and sat outside and ate . The sandwich is very good size , the Cole slaw is sweet and the chips are Lays, lol
As you approach the window, there is a reach in cooler with pints of slaw , potato salad and other sides and some desserts . You can grab them and pay at the window
I will definitely be back for more and to hike more if the amazing trails in the area

My partner came here some time ago and mentioned that there was a BBQ place near the famer’s market. We decided to go one weekend to visit Highlands and Cashiers. I thought the fact that you get chips, a side, AND a beverage on top of getting a sandwich was an amazing deal. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich with the market sweet BBQ sauce. I got macaroni and cheese as my side, regular Lays potato chips as my chips, and a water bottle as my beverage. Side note, the Coca-Cola cooler was so nice to grab our drinks from! We ordered with no issues and our food was ready after a few minutes. They have a nice seating area a little ways away from the establishment, and we sat down outside and ate the food. WOW! It was really good. The pork was juicy and flavorful. The sauce was tangy and sweet, and they gave a lot of sauce! The macaroni and cheese was rich and savory. My partner got the baked potato salad as his side, and that was also incredibly delicious. I love a potato salad that has a sour cream undertone rather than a mustard one, and this one hit the spot. I would highly recommend checking this place out, it was awesome!

Clean kitchen, fresh bread and meats. The bbq pork sandwich comes with a sauce on the side. I liked the vinegar bbq sauce but I think the sweet would’ve done better justice to the sandwich. Also very good banana pudding! Rich and you don’t need to eat a lot to get your fill!

Amazing cuban sandwich! Piled high with perfectly cooked pork, pickles, and mustard sauce. We ate outside at the picnic tables and were accompanied by the cutest – and most polite – resident golden retriever family. We will be back for sure!

Great take out BBQ perfect for a weekend in the mountains. Everything else you need can be found in the attached farmers market. Don’t skip the ribs!

Excellent food. I got the Cuban with the side of beans and my wife got a brisket sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese. All were delicious and I would return.
We went at lunch time on a Friday and it was very busy. 10 mins in line and about 20 to get the food but it was well worth it.
The only seating is a few outdoor tables so if it’s raining plan on getting it to go.

Good place to grab a sandwich for lunch. It comes with a side, drink and chips. I had the brisket and it was decent, not great.

This is my “Go To'” spot for lunch. Just a heads up, most sandwiches are big enough for 2. Although, you may want to get another drink and an extra side. This is outside seating or takeout only. There are some picnic tables onsite, but limited amount. Expect it to be crowded at lunch, but the line moves fast. I suggest going a littler early or about 1pm.

Never disappoints! And that banana pecan French toast is just to die for!! It wouldn’t be a trip to Highlands without a stop to the Blue Bike.
