OK, if you’ve never been to a Mexican ice cream and snack shop, you need to make some changes in your life. There is something for almost everyone in a place like La Michoacána. Ice cream, paletas (fresh made popsicles), mangoneadas, nachos, tostilocos, Cheetos con queso, crepes, aguas frescas, Elotes, milkshakes, fresh fruit, and I can go on and on. Seriously, you really can find something for almost everyone here. So if you want to keep it super safe and gringo, stick with simple, but really good, stuff like ice cream, paletas, and nachos. Their ice cream is made fresh in store every day. When you’re ready to channel your inner Mexican, you need to step it up and try a mangoneada. It’s an amazing combination of fresh mango chucks, ice cream, chamoy, and chili powder. Yes chili powder! The combination of sweet, salty, sour, and savory in your mouth is a complete flavor explosion. I highly recommend choosing fruit ice cream flavors for your mangoneada. Limon (lime), mango, and maracuya (passion fruit) are all top notch. Once you’ve had a mangoneada you’re ready for just about anything.
Some of my favorite items are:
Mangoneada ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Homemade ice cream (your favorite flavor) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Aguascalientes Frescas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Cheetos con queso⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Paletas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My guide on how I use the 5 star system:
⭐️ = Not good
⭐️⭐️ = Not terrible, but would not get again
⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Solid, but I’d try something else before this again
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Really liked it! You should try this
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Loved it! Must try
I’ll make adjustments to my ratings after subsequent visits. If you see a .3 or .7 it means:
.3 = Wasn’t as good the 2nd or last time I tried it
.7 = This was better the 2nd or last time I tried it.

Love all the Paleta flavors they have (Avocado, Mango, Passion Fruit, Coconut, Guayabana, Guayaba, Arroz Con Leche) & the ice creams are so rich! Chongo flavor is awesome and the ron con pasas are great!

Do not come here, shady business practices. The menu lists “Ice Cream Crepe” for $14.98, and directly underneath lists banana, Nutella, masapan, lechera, and strawberry.
Then underneath that it shows “Additional toppings 99 cents: peanuts, granola, etc”
This makes it appear as if the ice cream crepe includes banana, Nutella, masapan, lechera, and strawberry .. and that the additional toppings listed after “additional toppings 99 cents” would cost an additional 99 cents
Well apparently ALL toppings are an additional 99 cents .. so I ended up paying $21 for a crepe with a single scoop of ice cream when the price on the menu very clearly says $14.98.
I recommend anybody who is thinking about coming here to instead check out “Crème
de La Crepe”. Their crepes are top tier and cost $9-$10 each.

Horrible rude customer service. I bought a good amount of stuff and they want to charge you 10 cents for a bag. Even this other guy that i saw buy something he bought a good amount of stuff and had his baby he asked for a cup the girl Jasmine kind of had an attitude like she took pleasure in saying well normally we charge and gave him the cup. Had I known this I wouldn’t have tipped. She was kind of rude about it. Any other michoacana they don’t charge me a bag. Pizza d oro the restaurant next to this place gave me a bag and I just bought a salad and a slice of pizza from them. I have bought things previously from this establishment before and they have given me a bag especially buying a good amount of stuff. This isn’t a grocery store.

It’s frustrating that this location isn’t open when they say they are. It’s 6pm on a Wednesday and they’re closed. Father’s Day also closed. They’re also sticklers about making you buy large ice creams to get more than one flavor and inflexible about their containers.
There are definitely better run La Michoacanas out there.

Had no idea there was a Michoacana in Costa Mesa! I’m so glad I don’t have to drive all the way to Santa Ana anymore for my cueritos craving lol. I got a medium cup of cueritos and they asked if I wanted any toppers, which I never knew I could add onto besides just the valentina and chamoy. I added some chamoy candies! Also got some nieve de mango con chamoy and tamarindo. Super yummy but I loved the Tamarindo! The tostilocos were pretty amazing too! Will definitely stop by pretty often!!

The girl working wasn’t able to explain to us what they have to offer regardless how many times we asked. Just kept saying how many scoops and sizes it comes in.
The menu is underwhelming and not a single pic of what they offer. Basically you need to know what you want.
At the end we went with some specialty, which was $22!!! First time stopping here and now it’s clear why you never see foot traffic here. I can’t believe I actually paid $22 for 2 scoops of ice cream on top of strawberries. Never again.

I asked one of their employees to make me a mangonada with three flavors of ice cream instead of two. I assume it was just a long day for them. Otherwise, it is a decent location.

We just discovered this place last week and have been back three times. My family is hooked! So many interesting and creative ice cream and paleta flavors! The hot cheetos elote is delicious. We loved the mango ice cream with tajin. I had the mangonada and it was so good and different than anything I’ve had before. My only suggestion (and it’s not a criticism) would be to think about having a more detailed, photographic menu that explained what everything is in both English and Spanish. Maybe a couple printed menus with photos, or signs on the back wall? I was a bit confused by the menu sign inside the store but ended up looking at the instagram account to figure out new things to try. Would be nice to have the options clearer. For example, we would not have known to try Tostilocos or Mangonadas just based on seeing the words, but they were our favorite things we tried based off instagram photos. It might be nice to bring more visuals, descriptions and translations into the store experience for other folks who come in without knowing what to get. I agree with all of the other reviews as well – super friendly staff!
