Mozzarella was good, sandwich was average, but the biggest issue was that at 3 pm on a Friday, I could not find a clean table, despite there being only one other patron in the building.

I decided to venture over to Taylor Gourmet on K Street, a spot that once boasted 17 locations in D.C. and was the talk of the town. I’ve passed by countless times, intrigued by its mysterious, limited hours. Then, a twist of fate—someone decided it was time to extend those hours and serve more than just the office lunch crowd. I took this as my cue to finally dive into their offerings.

With a welcoming smile, the cashier greeted me as I stepped inside. The menu was tempting, but I set my sights on the Classic Cheesesteak—though I opted for chicken instead of the usual beef. I skipped the chips and sides, settling for a drink. Here’s where my love affair with iced tea hit a snag: they only had small bottled versions, and I’m a sucker for freshly brewed with free refills. Alas, not every place is perfect.

But then, my sandwich arrived, hot off the grill, and all was forgiven. In a city not exactly renowned for its cheesesteaks, this one was a revelation. The roll was that perfect balance of soft and sturdy, cradling a medley of flavors that sang with every bite. Affordable and satisfying, I think I’ve found my new go-to spot for a solid cheesesteak fix.

Our office had them cater a party once, and they served up a feast of salads, cookies, and an array of subs. I was so engrossed in the salads that I didn’t snap any pics—rookie mistake! But trust me, it was all delicious.

If you find yourself near 14th and K Street, do yourself a favor and stop by Taylor Gourmet. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their menu. Here’s hoping the new management keeps up the great work and maybe even brings back more locations. This place is a tasty gem waiting to be rediscovered!

While touring DC, my cousin had a cheesesteak craving, and this place was within walking distance. It was around 3 PM on a Wednesday, and there was no one else inside. They had a lunch special – buy one sandwich, get one free. Unsure if it’s worth it at full price, but it felt like a steal at half price. The Girard Ave and Classic Cheesesteak were filling and tasted like high-quality sandwiches. We also tried the Love Park Salad, which had an excess of mozzarella cheese but was otherwise quite good.

I was excited to find a DC sandwich shop calling their sandwiches “hoagies”. They do not disappoint — tastes like they’re from Philly. Really recommend the Vine Street.

First time at Taylor Gourmet and I was extremely impressed! For starters, the place was very clean and the staff was extremely friendly. I am Gluten free and I got myself the Gluten free cheesesteak and it was delicious! Not very easy to find good gluten free sandwich spots and glad I came across this place. All of the sandwiches can be made to be Gluten free which was also a nice thing to see.

I’ll have to try the cheesesteak next time because the photo looks so yummy. I got the Franklin Square salad with breaded chicken cutlet and it was delicious! I feel $15 is a little pricey for a basic salad but it was fresh and I ate it all!

I made a pilgrimage to see if it tasted like the good old days and left sorely disappointed. Boy, do I miss how great Taylor Gourmet *used* to be: awesome bread, thoughtful sandwiches, reasonable prices. This new era misses the mark in so many ways.

Sure, they kept the old sandwiches, but their new bread is garbage, tastes like stale rolls from a chain supermarket. And the new prices are bananas! I paid $18 for a regular-sized sub and a bottle of water. Service was quick and professional, and the digs are fine. But the sandwiches tasted like yet another victim of a private equity firm cost-trimming and ruining what brought customers there to begin with.

Taylor Gourmet has the best bread ever! I hate a very soft roll, their Farmhouse wheat bread is my favorite with the Cherry St Roast Beef sandwich. It’s hard to find a good sandwich shoo in DC, we have some very bad choices like potbelly, Grazie Grazie and the ultimate worst sub place Jersey Mike’s (how the hell that place exists is beyond reason) . Glad the new owners came in and saved this spot!

The sandwich was dry and service was not good at all.
