We had 갈비탕 (kalbi tang; short rib soup) and 우거지 갈비탕 (wooguhji kalbi tang; spicy cabbage short rib soup). Both were amazing. Service was prompt and friendly. The complementary warm barley tea they give you was nice as well. They make their kimchi in-house, which is really delicious. It’s spicy, abit unripe which makes it refreshing. We would go back to the restaurant for the kimchi. We strongly recommend the kimchi and the two soups we got.

This restaurant, formerly known as Sam’s 수산시장, has been radically transformed into a Korean traditional restaurant, so we were curious to visit for the first time. The space itself felt lively and energetic, filled with both customers and servers moving about, which gave the restaurant a vibrant atmosphere. We were seated in a more private room for the four of us, which we appreciated for conversation and comfort.
We ordered the 만두전골, which we enjoyed overall. The dish was comforting and satisfying, and it reflected the restaurant’s intention to present more traditional Korean flavors. However, the dining experience was unfortunately diminished by inconsistent service. At one point, the waitress did not respond to our questions at all. While it’s understandable that a server may not always have an immediate answer, not responding felt discourteous. One of our friends, who asked the question, felt particularly upset because it seemed as though his concern was simply ignored. Although another waiter later tried to make up for the situation, the service left much to be desired.
In addition, we felt that the food was somewhat overpriced for the overall experience. Given the intense and competitive nature of the restaurant industry today, service quality plays a crucial role in whether customers return. With some improvements in staff responsiveness and a slight adjustment in pricing, this restaurant could position itself more strongly. Without those changes, it may be difficult to sustain momentum in such a competitive market.

My friend and I visited HanBat recently on a busy Sunday afternoon yet we still were able to be seated right away. The building used to be Sam’s Sushi, tucked neatly away in a forgotten corner outside Gwinnett Place Mall and has retained its cozy interior after all these years. The servers were warm and welcoming, almost enthusiastic to serve us our food.

Immediately, my friend ordered the seafood pancake and I agreed with the decision bc HanBat’s seafood pancake consists of squid and shrimp, both of which I can eat. The $20 pancake is definitely meant to be shared, as it is stuffed with green onions, peppers, shrimp and squid in every bite. I personally would have preferred a thinner pancake that is crispier on the outside, but I understand the stuffing would have suffered with a longer cooking time. Don’t get me wrong; I still would order this every visit and could potentially eat the entire pancake as a meal alone, but it is an appetizer best shared with friends.

Next came our main dishes and we made the classic rookie mistake of ordering the same menu item instead of 2 different ones to share. We opted for the seolleontang, which, on this chilly afternoon, seemed perfectly fitting, as we also did not want any stews or hearty soups at the time. The seolleontang was beefy in flavor but could use a little bit of salt. I didn’t mind so much as my friend did bc I usually eat low-sodium meals. I liked that the soup had plenty of thinly-sliced beef which was cooked to tender perfection. The soup came with noodles and rice was on the side for your preference. Overall, not my favorite seolleontang, but I do like it enough to come back and try other dishes.

Now, the kimchi… What can I say that other reviewers have not? Probably nothing much bc as many have mentioned, the kimchi is made in-house. What a difference that makes! We kept asking for refills of the kimchi (thank goodness at no charge) bc it is that good. I think I liked the radish kimchi just a little bit more than the cabbage kimchi bc of the crunch and how the radish absorbed all the flavors so well. There was no weird after-taste and the spice was just enough to keep us wanting more; 10/10 kimchi.

I’d love to come back and try the galbitang and galbijjim as I venture on my quest to find the perfect galbijjim.

Love this place. My advice to anyone searching for an authentic, great Korean spot is to see the patrons. If most are composed of elderly Koreans then you found the right spot. Service is top notch. Food is amazing. They make kimchi in house and it’s amazing.

Really really delicious Korean food! The kimchi and pickled radish here are so fresh. I also highly recommend the beef bone soup (설랑탕). The portion was huge and filled with so much meat. The soup was also steaming hot and comforting. Definitely check this place out for traditional Korean cuisine!

Dinners with Dad, Lunch Edition, episode 888 with the Fantastic Four! We had a banner day…of course everyone was missed (David, Neeley, Olivia, Haelee, Taelor) but we were riding out with the four who moved to the other side of the world back in 1978! Jeanie and I hadn’t been to Han Bat over by Gwinnett Place Mall but we will definitely be back! It was almost empty when we got there but by the time we left almost every table was full! We asked if they did Door Dash but they said they are so busy they can’t…great problem to have! Everything we at was fantastic! Check them out if you’re in the mood for some traditional Korean food! We had naengmyeon, yukhoe bibimbap, and modeum suyuk…and their kimchi and moo kimchi were amazing! They make their noodles in house and you can tell…
