Its a nice quiet little spot to enjoy some Vietnamese food. I had the Bun Ga Nuong (Vermicelli and grilled chicken) and it was a delightful meal. Portions were spot on for lunch, the sauces and sides were flavorful and nicely balanced, and the chicken was cooked right. Cant wait to go back to try some of their other items on the menu.

It’s the only Vietnamese place in an area full of Italian people and food. In its own way it’s become a quiet and meaningful landmark in its own right. It’s self – possessed and created its own belonging . And that’s what I like about it . One of the most frequently recommended restaurants that I never go to : they just don’t have their heart into making of any vegetarian meals for me ; but it’s admired by one and all.

So, I am now very spoiled, having just since three weeks returned from an enchantment call “Ho Chi Minh City” in Vietnam, where one’s taste buds are constantly excited with extraordinary eating, and landed upon this jewel in North Beach.
Most happy am I to continue the new found legacy of eating extraordinarily well that my two-week-stint in “Ho Chi Minh City” bestowed. “Pho Vung Tau” is absolutely what the doctor ordered for my withdrawal syndrome and, to my chagrin, the owner and chef’s family is from two hours South of “Ho Chi Minh City”. Everything I have eaten has been an excitement of the palette! The waitress, Mae, is an extraordinary hostess, server and cashier and is also very nice on the eyes, as it were.
So, if you are looking for outstanding Vietnamese food, “Pho Vung Tau” in North Beach is the place. Take it from my taste buds, folks….

Not recommended to have soup noodles here. It was not authentic, taste was different compared to authentic Vietnamese restaurants. Definitely not the best Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown.
But, their fried noodles/rices were good and the portions were big.
Service was good. Spacious and clean.

The one I ordered in above picture was pretty good, especially the grilled pork with fish sauce was amazing. However, the spring rolls were not very good. The phở my friend ordered was not the same taste in Vietnam. The staff were friendly though. The thing make me most confused was the hand-written bill. They added tax themselves and calculated all themselves.

I had the cold rice noodle salad with grilled pork and tiny egg rolls. I like this place. I got a noodle bowl and a salad of bean sprouts, fresh mint leaves, and lettuce on the bottom… under the noodles. They have a large menu too and its take-out or dine- in. Prices are the lowest, for this area, and I go here whenever i want a good meal!

We ordered the BBQ chicken & imperial rolls Vermicelli was really nice! It has the perfect size for sharing when you are looking for something small to eat. Good value for money

Nice place, though limited vegetarian options were available, they’re willing to accommodate requests and customize dishes without meat, fish, oyster sauce, prawns etc…
