Great building, followed by warm welcome. Plenty of time given to peruse the menu while we partook in Sunday Spritzes. Hard to choose both drinks AND food from a small but delicious menu!
With a careful eye on the desserts, we settled on the same main meal each – a tasty chicken and pasta concoction with spaghetti, poached and semi shredded chicken, devine bechamel sauce, mushrooms, aparagus and lovely crunch on top. Great bowls for eating pasta from and food was the perfect temperature.
Service was attentive and amusing – we loved the excitement from the staff to share their menu, so much so that we were offered some fresh Bruny oysters as a side (on the house!). They were served with an experimental magnolia vinaigrette which had a pleasant meaty flavour combined with the oysters.
Dessert couldn’t be denied so we chose one of each – an apple crème brûlée for my friend and a very decadent chocolate mousse for me. Both super tasty and a great full stop to the meal.
We took our time and chatted lots. The atmosphere was casual, and a little bit funky. We decided the food was an inspired combination of French/Euro/Asian influences. All the ingredients were fresh and local to Tassie. The seats were comfy for a generous bum and there was no problem splitting the bill at the end.
Thanks guys! Will definitely visit again soon!
The coffee was reasonable, and the ‘breakfast bun’ was delicious – warm and sticky, but not too sweet.
The real joy was the ambiance. Quiet and comfortable, with lots of space and secluded corners to sit and relax.
The staff were competent and efficient, but given that there were only a few of us there, pretty relaxed.
I had a look at the dinner menu, and it has a very strong French emphasis. Moderately expensive, but not excessive.
A nice addition to the Hobart restaurant scene.
I organised a table in advance for a surprise birthday lunch for my partner. Whilst I was doing this I made a special request for the best seat in the restaurant. Mateo went the extra mile to email me photographs of the tables and a floor plan before reserving them for my partner and I.
When we arrived, the two waitresses were very friendly and polite. They guided us to our special reserved seating and they accommodated my partner on a number of requests to ensure that she was comfortable.
The menu and drinks list were excellent, and we ordered two mains and a side dish which were extremely flavoursome, hearty, and warming. We also had a beautiful rich, yet refreshing, dessert. The presentation of the dishes was pretty and even the coffee I ordered first was brilliant.
The two waitresses provided sensational service and made sure to check in on us to see how my partner and I were going.
To top everything off, the two waitresses even organised a lovely, complimentary birthday surprise just for my partner.
My partner and I had a lovely time and will definitely dine again for dinner sometime soon.
Thank you so much to the team (chefs included!) for making my partner’s birthday lunch a truly special and memorable moment for the both of us!
My first time eating french cuisine and will probably be my last.
We had the duck, it was quite tough and dry.
The meal was barely warm, so disappointed
Food was nice but some of the main portions were a bit small (probably meal sizes are thought for eaters to have a whole experience including entree, sides and dessert?, so take this into account when ordering).
Not enough vegan options (just one of the entrees and two of the sides dishes) when placing the booking we were told over the phone that the chefs could put something together depending on the specials, etc but on site this didn’t end up being an option! Anyways, the two vegan sides chosen were very nice! 🙂
The menu is written in French which matches the identity chosen for the place but can be tricky to pick an item and order.
All in all it was a good experience!
Great drinks list, wines and cocktails. They generously gave us a free sample taste of 2 wines and one of their excellent cocktails.
Certainly not cheap, but everything was worth the price because it was such good quality and so well executed.
Our total bill actually came to a little less than I had anticipated which was a nice surprise.
