This is a wonderful dive. It’s not too much to look at and be prepared to wait; but, man, that food is so worth it. The portions are cartoonishly big and the food is soulful. The poutine is balanced and very flavorful and the chicken is moist and tasty. It looks like a greasy spoon, but there is nothing greasy about it. I will definitely eat here every time I am in Montreal!

Their grilled calamari and Portuguese chicken were AMAZING! The chicken still tasted delicious even when it was cold. They truly worked some magic with their sauce. I didn’t try their famous poutine, and now I really regret it. I’ll definitely be coming back when I get the chance!

I recently returned here for the first time in about 10 years and was extremely disappointed. The poutine was not the miracle I tasted the first time and my chicken thigh meal was no better as the chicken just tasted greasy and I could barely taste the spicy piri piri sauce I asked for. The rice I got also tasted very bland.

This was a very strong disappointment for me. I expected them to live up to their fantastic reputation and it didn’t even come close.

I’m genuinely baffled.

Ma Poule Mouillée is always a great choice for Portuguese chicken and I find they have the best poutine in the city. For the price, you are getting a huge portion and everything is amazing. I give their poutine a solid 9/10 with the star being the chicken and the sauce. The cheese curds are very good and the chorizo is also a nice touch. The fries are pretty good but are the lowest point of the dish. I can’t express enough how good the chicken is, they nail it! If you come in the early evening, get ready to wait for a table but for lunch during the week it’s perfect.

As a lover of Portuguese chicken, I had to try this place and I was not disappointed. The poutine is hands down one of the best deals in the city. The portion size was huge (easily two full, delicious meals), and the flavor balance was spot on. I expected something heavy or greasy, but even with the chorizo, it wasn’t overly fatty at all just perfectly rich and flavorful. The chicken itself was excellent, and the service was quick and friendly. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fresh, modern twist on classic poutine.

Damm were they trying to stuff me? Talk about this plate!
They gave a lot of meat and for 15 dollars it was not bad!

I wish the fries were a bit fresher and the sausage a bit warmer because when I bit into the sausage it was room-temp at most.

I left no crumb = no waste 🙂

7/10

The poutine here is crazy, chicken and gravy create harmony favor in my mouth.
The chicken is the best that I ever had. It’s so flavorful and juicy.
With fair price, here would be your must when you visit Montreal.

We travelled from Toronto to Montreal to try their famous poutine. But it wasn’t anything special, you can get the same taste literally anywhere.. It was good but nothing special.

Is it even a trip to the Plateau if you don’t stop at Ma Poule Mouillée? @mapoulemouillee

There’s a reason the line is always out the door! From that signature charcoal-grilled Portuguese chicken to what many call the best poutine in Montreal (that spicy chorizo topping is a game changer), every bite is worth the wait.

Did you know? Ma Poule Mouillée is famously located right across the street from Romados, creating one of the most delicious “chicken rivalries” in the world. Whether you’re here for the classic quarter-chicken leg or the massive “Poutine Grande,” you’re tasting a true Montreal landmark. ✨

Grab a seat, soak up the smells of the wood-fired grill, and don’t forget the extra hot sauce! ️

Pretty solid poutine!

Never been much of a great poutine fan but I’d have to say the one I’ve had here left quite an impression and made me think otherwise.

Most poutine sold are simple and plain with just the gravy and the cheese curds, but Ma Poule Mouillée manages to change that by putting a creative spin on their dishes by offering a wide selection of different toppings and combinations, of which have been interesting to see, and hard to choose.

For myself, I had a La Scooby, which consisted of the regular poutine, with beef, deep fried pickles, bacon and cheese. It’s really good, and the staff here are also friendly and food comes out relatively quick!

We did not have to wait for a table for 2, and thought we were lucky because the place was absolutely packed when we were seated. This also might be due to the bad weather at the time, but we were there around 1:30pm, on a weekend too.

The seating area however can be a bit cramped, so I find myself having to shift my chair in and out constantly to let people pass through.

Otherwise, I think it’s a great stop for poutine if you’re visiting Montreal! Worth every penny.
