If you ever find yourself in Des Plaines, you have to check out Sofia’s Taqueria! ✨
The ambiance, the food, and the service were all absolutely amazing. Jenny was so sweet and professional — she truly made the experience even better and had us wanting to come back again. Totally worth the drive!

This is a really nice Mexican restaurant. The salsa with chips was really good. We had a burrito, a Taco Champechano, and a Taco el Pastor. All were very tasty and a nice size.
Give this restaurant a try. It won’t disappoint.

A Flavorful Start with Minor Kinks
I was excited to try this new spot, and overall, the food was delicious! The flavors are absolutely on point.
I ordered the Taco Campechano and a Steak Burrito.
The Taco Campechano was fantastic—packed with flavorful meat and so tasty I’d order it again in a heartbeat. Just a heads-up: the menu says it comes with diced raw onions and cilantro, but mine arrived with grilled onions. Still excellent, just different than described.
The Steak Burrito had a solid foundation of well-seasoned steak, beans, and rice. My only letdown was the lettuce. Based on the menu photo, I expected a good amount of crisp lettuce for texture, but there were only about four tiny pieces inside. The balance leaned heavily towards the beans and rice. That said, it was still satisfying.
The salsas were a standout—fresh and delicious!
Final Verdict: I’m definitely coming back to try more menu items. The kitchen has skill, and if they iron out the small discrepancies between the menu and the plates, this place will be a home run.

They will treat you different…. Waited a while for food no chips and salsa as we stayed to eat saw another customer come in placed her order they served 4 people that came after her then gave her her order that was pretty small. As soon as a group of hispan men walked in they were given great treatment… Chips and choice of salsas. My food came out cold NEVER AGAIN… Now i gotta find my review on Facebook and remove it asap

Stopped for lunch today. It was my first, but not my last visit. I got a steak burrito and al Pastor taco. I grew up in Los Angeles and lived in Phoenix, AZ for almost 20 years. I know good Mexican food and Sofia’s is the best I’ve had since moving to the Midwest almost 3 years ago. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their menu.

It is a nice small Mexican restaurant with a colorful interior and quiet few tables to sit inside, I got 4 different tacos recommended by person who took my order, and I think they were really good, flavorful and tortillas were not falling apart. Des Plaines has a really good Mexican cuisine. Worth a stop, but not a detour.
