I came to Golden Lion Restaurant on a mission: short on time, very hungry, and operating on a budget that said “be reasonable.” Mission accomplished.
The food is a little better than average—solid, comforting, and generous. Not trying to reinvent Chinese cuisine, just showing up and doing the job well. And for under $10, you get a lot of food. This is the kind of place that believes no one should leave hungry, and I respect that deeply.
The service? Fast. Efficient. Blink-and-your-food’s-here fast.
Now, the experience
The place was empty when I walked in, and the woman working there led me toward what looked like a wall… which then slid open. Suddenly I’m walking into a darker back room that felt straight out of an old-school Sean Connery 007 movie. Very secret lair vibes. Unexpected. Delightful.
I took a back table—perfectly placed. The room itself was warm and cozy, while the air was icy cold in the best possible way. I sipped a perfect cup of oolong tea, ate my food, and watched my new Netflix binge, Brockmire. Honestly? I was in heaven. No notes.
Bottom line:
If you’re hungry, short on time, watching your wallet, and secretly enjoy places with a little retro mystery—Golden Lion delivers. Not flashy. Not fussy. Just a lot of food, fast service, and a surprisingly cool vibe hiding behind a sliding wall.

We ordered several dishes, and they were all great. The Chow mein, fried rice, egg rolls, crab ragoons, and sweet and sour chicken. The portions were huge and the cost was very reasonable. Service was polite and quick.

I work around this area very often and stop by at this restaurant mostly for lunch. All the food I tried was great, but egg drop soup is out of this world. I don’t know what the secret their chef knows but among bunch of different soups of this kind this one is a King, or Golden Lion King I guess.
Definitely worth of trying.

I can’t remember if the TV dinners from the 70’s had a Chinese option but if they did this would be it. The carrot and pea mixture was straight out of the frozen food isle at a discount grocery store. I will say… it was edible, not much more. Not worth the time or money.

I must say I used to really enjoy my food when I ordered, but the last couple times I’ve ordered and I usually order the same thing shrimp fried rice and almond fried chicken. The fried rice has shrimp in it, but it had a little bit of burnt egg and that’s about it. Nothing else. The chicken was OK. They have changed their gravy for almond chicken as well, which I really didn’t care for. I hope they change their menu back to what it was a couple years ago. It was much better. I hope that them, knowing that the food isn’t up to what it used to be, maybe they can change back. I can’t be the only one that thinks this, anyways best wishes to y’all I hope things improve. The way I see it people don’t know that there’s a problem unless people speak up….
