Donnici’s Italian Deli in Excelsior Springs offers a standout experience, especially when it comes to customer service. The staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming, taking time to guide us through the menu and offer thoughtful suggestions since it was our first visit. It’s rare to find that level of attention and genuine care, especially in quick-service settings.

We ordered our food to go, and while the presentation wasn’t fancy meatball subs are naturally a bit messy, it didn’t matter. The flavor more than made up for it. The meatball sub was absolutely phenomenal: hearty, perfectly seasoned, and deeply satisfying. If you’ve only ever had a chain sandwich, you’re in for a revelation. Subway simply doesn’t compare.

In addition to the sandwiches, Donnici’s also offers fresh bakery items, handmade noodles, an impressive soda selection, chips, and ice cream. Everything feels intentional, from the ingredients to the overall atmosphere. Donnici’s is exactly the kind of locally-owned deli every town need, one that cares about quality and people in equal measure.

Family decided to give this a try. We ordered to go, there is very little seating in the Deli. We ordered a meatball sub, a smoked turkey sub, a spicy Italian sub, and a pizza. The meatball sub was great, the turkey sub was good, the spicy Italian was fine, one of the meats was a little too spicy for the person eating it, and the pizza was good. The staff was friendly and patient when ordering. The wait for food was not very long. This is a deli so there is plenty of items in the store to look at and buy for home also, most being either local products or Italian products. Prices were good on the food we ordered, store prices were reasonable for what it was. Store hours don’t work well with our families schedule most day’s, which is why it took so this long to try it, but we enjoyed it and will probably be back soon. If you are in the mood for a good sandwich or pizza give this a try.

Arrived about 15 minutes before closing — I know, I know — but the folks at Donnici’s couldn’t have been more welcoming. I ordered two pizzas and, given the timing, decided to go the take-and-bake route. Best decision I made all week.
While I waited, I wandered the market and was genuinely charmed by the selection: housemade pastas, fresh breads, refrigerated sausages, lasagnas, desserts, and a solid spread of Italian beers, wines, and liquor. It’s the kind of place you could spend an hour in without trying.
The pizzas came with clear, well-written instructions and turned out absolutely stellar. We went with the Logan Deluxe and the Wabash BBQ Chicken — and if you’re ordering pizza, do yourself a favor and get it St. Louis style. My wife and I agreed it was some of the best pizza we’ve had in a long time.
Donnici’s has officially earned a permanent spot on our regular rotation. Don’t sleep on this place.

Cold cuts are extremely tasty. LOTS of Gluten Free options. Had different types of GF bread selection. They have a larger area of Gluten Free options than local large grocery stores does. We’ve ate there for lunch and got combo meals and also took meals home to take and bake. VERY friendly people own it with great customer service skills. We highly recommend this small business that’s doing a great job serving their community.

I was in town working with the dealership across the street and was told I needed to try this place. Excellent experience. The customer service was great, and it appears to be family‑owned. The food was outstanding. It’s a cool little store that even sells some Italian and local beer, some pre-made dinners you can take and bake, and all kinds of food items from chips to sauces, etc.

Really great spot with a welcoming atmosphere, and definitely worth the stop if you’re nearby. I’m glad I listened!

It’s not East Coast Italian but its good, I wish the bread was closer to what you can get in New York.
Otherwise it’s very delcious, they give you so much food for what you pay. I ordered the spicy italian, this was just shy of 12 dollars for a grinder which is a steal.

We ordered a full pan of Donnici’s Italian sausage lasagna for our Thirsty Gnome holiday party and it was a huge hit with our staff. Absolutely delicious and generously portioned. We really appreciated being able to relax and enjoy great food together—ours and theirs. Highly recommend Donnici’s Italian Deli!

Started off by having the figgy prosciutto had prosciutto fresh mozzarella, arugula, balsamic glaze a fig preserve spread on a ciabatta bread and the caprese salad both were delicious. The salads are all made in house. The cookies and desserts are all made by local bakeries and they carry a lot of local products in the store. They also have pizzas and lasagna, which I look forward to trying on my next visit. Staff was great answered every question I had super friendly people.

Seriously people don’t sleep on this place. I’m a VERY sensitive celiac and LOVE to eat here. The food is amazing and so are their safe practices. It is a shared kitchen, but they do their absolute best to try and keep cross-contact to a minimum. The amount of food you get is large and worth the price. I always have leftovers.
