We tried the avacado, mango, strawberry and Thai tea with boba drinks. Thai tea was good (4/5), avocado smoothie with boba(4/5), strawberry smoothie no boba(3.5/5).

I didn’t realize there was a kiosk to the right when you enter so I ordered with the staff. They were very sweet and even gave us red envelopes since it was just recently Lunar New Year. Their egg rolls are always nice and crispy. The banh mi was good but there were often huge chunks of cilantro and jalapeños in it. The fish sauce for the bowl somehow tasted minty but was otherwise very clean/ refreshing and was what we were looking for

we were near the University of Minnesota and were looking for something to eat and online recommendations suggested Lus sandwich so decided to check it out.
they are vietnamese based but have an open concept similar to chipotle so you can modify your meal to your preference
we got the spring rolls with curry tofu and the curry tofu banh mi. we have had both before at other vietnamese places and for me they were better at Lus because the tofu had flavor and spice and that added flavor to the entire meal. was it traditional, no but it was tasty.

Great flavor, portion, and price on the sandwiches. I get the grilled pork with everything but the pâté. Spicy sause is actually spicy. Vietnamese iced coffee is killer and avocado smoothies can’t be found anywhere else nearby.

The Grilled beef and mango smoothie were delicious. Service was quick and the store was really clean. My only complaint is the jalapeño slices are cut a bit too thick for my liking but otherwise 10/10, would recommend.

“I walked into Liz’s because I heard the bread was legendary. I left with a full stomach and a slightly bruised ego, which is exactly how you know the food is authentic.
The Order of Operations:
• The Interaction: I tried to ask if I could swap the swiss for provolone. Liz looked at me over her glasses with the disappointment of a mother watching her child fail a third-grade spelling bee. She said, ‘No. You want it the way I make it, or you want a lunchable from the gas station?’
• The Submission: I whispered, ‘Yes, ma’am,’ and stood in the corner like a Victorian orphan until my name was called.
• The Speed: She put that sandwich together with the precision of a surgeon and the speed of a NASCAR pit crew. If you blink, you’ll miss the moment the ham hits the hoagie.
The Masterpiece:
The bread is a miracle. It’s crunchy enough to shatter a diamond on the outside but softer than a cloud’s inner thigh on the inside. I got the ‘Liz Special,’ and I’m pretty sure she puts a secret ingredient in there that makes you forget all your problems, including your mortgage and the fact that you’re currently crying in a booth.
The Ambience:
The walls are covered in photos of people who look significantly cooler than me, and there’s a sign that says ‘Unattended Children Will Be Given Espresso and a Free Puppy.’ I believe her. I didn’t see a single child.
The Verdict:
It’s the kind of place where the owner’s mood is the secret seasoning. If Liz is happy, the sandwich is a 10/10. If Liz is annoyed, the sandwich is an 11/10 because that spice just hits different.
10/10. I would apologize to Liz for existing just to get another bite of that Dutch Crunch.”

Went here in September 2024. Have since been to Vietnam and Lu’s is still my favorite Banh Mi to date. Second to none, must-try if ever in Minneapolis.

I go to Lu’s sandwiches each time I’m in Minneapolis for school, ever since I discovered them. I wish I had known about them earlier. I also saw the joshlilj Youtube video of the owner being extremely generous so I’m blowing up each location with a 5 star review.

Stopped in to Lu’s U of M location to chat about their food challenge. Found out you have to call ahead or email them to make a reservation but I was determined to not leave empty handed.
I ordered a small pan fried chicken sandwich with a small Thai iced coffee.
These sandwiches are amazing and they’re very addicting. I’m almost tempted to go back and get another!
