The order counter is still the same but they rebranded the space with colorful murals against black backgrounds. As soon as you walk in, you see the plentiful selection of baked goods including turnovers, danishes, puffs, croissant, cookies, muffins, and various specialty breads. We came around Christmas time so it was so fun for my toddler to get the red and green concha!
We ordered the chicken mole sandwich on a sesame baguette to share (Tu Mero Mole $14) – it was pretty big so it was plenty of food for me and my friend. Although I wish they had a “combo” option that came with a side (either chips or pastry) and a drink. The beans overpowered the chicken with not much avocado jalapeño salsa, and the queso fresco didn’t add more flavor to it. Honestly the best part was the pickled onion and the fluffy yet crunchy sesame baguette. The pastries range between $3-$6 each which is very reasonable and we got 2 Conchas and 2 Guava Turnovers – both were very tasty and not too sweet!
I would come back and try the other sandwiches and other popular pastries next time!
Unfortunately, we waited about five minutes without being greeted. When one of the employees eventually came to the register, she did not acknowledge us and continued looking at her phone. We had to say hello first before she looked up and said hi. Her demeanor made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed customers. There was no offer to help, no smile, and no engagement. My husband and I were very disappointed by the lack of warmth and hospitality, especially for a new business. A simple smile and friendly greeting would have made a big difference. Because of how unwelcomed we felt, we decided not to order anything. I truly hope they improve their customer service moving forward, but based on this experience, I would not recommend this bakery at this time.
Parked right outside on Broadway, walked in and ordered a chocolate chip cookie, the Italian on sesame, turkey avocado on sesame, and the cochinita pibil on sesame. Everything was so good, also decided to grab an iced currant scone recommended to us and got to try a chocolate croissant. Service was patient and great. Food was as good as I had heard and better than I expected. The baguette had such a wonderful chew to it and eating it didn’t leave me feeling like I had consumed a lot of bread so I was pleased by the quality. The sandwiches were huge and flavorful, and the pastries were so good! Looking forward to next time. My only regret was not ordering some bread to go like I saw everyone else doing. I won’t make that mistake again!
I have always wanted to try this place as I drive by it frequently – stopped on a whim at 10:34 AM craving a breakfast sandwich only to realize they stop serving them at 10:30!!! The gentleman at the counter still happily let me order anyway! SO GLAD he did!
I got the DH Special and let me tell you, it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had. From the bacon cooked to perfection, the crazy flavors from the chimichurri (a little spicy but so good!), FRESH ciabatta…. Oh man. Still thinking about it and will 100% be back for another one. Or try something new! Killer portion size and only $8.00
The picture doesn’t do it justice. 10/10
This is my first time at this location. Ordered the cochinita Pibil sandwich. It was okay. The pork was fine. Nothing exciting.
I was annoyed about the service on this non-busy day. Maybe I’m used to the Portland location being more friendly.
Food: I got the DH special and a guava pastry plus a hot cup of coffee. The chimichurri was delicious on the sandwich and the ciabatta was so fresh – the perfect crunch yet still airy?!? How do they do it!? Guava pastry was a perfect sweet treat and paired wonderfully with the delicious cup of coffee I ordered. I had my meal to stay and there was plenty of comfortable seating in the cafe.
Environment: plenty of tables and seats indoors and outdoors. They have a corner lot so you should be able to enjoy your fresh meal right there even with a larger group! I saw a group of about 12 people come in for breakfast from a nearby office. They pushed tables together and got to enjoy pastries as a team.
Service: The gentleman at the front register was a delight! Super friendly and answered all of my questions. Him and the chef were working very well together especially when it got pretty busy. They are true pros, kept it cool under pressure and provided fantastic service.
I am so excited to go back and keep supporting this business!
Great service and everything seemed to be running smoothly already. Would love some outdoor tables if they can manage it! Really looking forward to making this a regular stop and working our way through their menu.
Edit: And they now have outdoor seating! Amazing!
