We ordered clam chowder, French onion soup, perch with fries, and cod bites with fries.
Of course, we started with a rye whiskey Old Fashioned. It wasn’t muddled, but it was still very good.
The clam chowder was excellent, loaded with clams and big chunks of potatoes. Very flavorful and delicious.
The French onion soup had a very thick consistency, almost like gravy. There was a ton of bread in it, which may have absorbed much of the liquid and caused the thickness, but that is just a guess as to why it was so thick. Flavor-wise, it didn’t taste like a traditional French onion soup, and we all agreed it felt like it was missing something. It was also surprisingly a little spicy.
A friend ordered the perch and said it was good.
I had the cod bites, which had an extremely thin breading. The fish itself was very flaky, and paired with the very, very thin breading, it made for extremely delicate pieces. Overall though they were very good.
The downside, unfortunately, was the portion size. Once you moved the rye bread off the plate (there is a picture included), it became clear how small the portions really were. I don’t need to leave feeling stuffed, but between the how light the fish was and the very small serving of fries, I left still hungry.
We would be willing to give them another try but overall we weren’t impressed.
