We’ve been to The Water Trough a few times now and in aggregate it is a fun and lively place to dine at. The closest parking is the Orange Garage so the walk over is quick. Breakfast or dinner, it is a nice, clean place with a good vibe and good food. The setting at night is much better as they have live music most nights and put up the garage shutter so you can hear it from their outdoor portion as well.

On the breakfast side of things we sat quickly and service was okay. We ordered the Texas breakfast tacos and the pancakes, hash browns, and bacon a la carte. The breakfast tacos were good. We got them with brisket and the portion was huge, although we wish it came with three tortillas instead of two because it was more than we could fit into them. The eggs, cheese, and brisket all came together and despite what reads as a smaller dish, we were pretty full by it. As for the pancakes, hash browns, and bacon; all were pretty classic versions of them. The pancakes were good, thin and sweet. The hash browns were cooked well with a slight crunch and the bacon was the highlight of the three, full of flavor with a nice chew and crisp. We also ordered chocolate milk, but whatever we got was NOT chocolate milk. It was closer to a frothed drink and had cinnamon in it which was a bit strange. The waitress could clearly see we were not feeling it and she comped it on our bill which was very, very nice of her to do without asking.

The dinner here is much better than the breakfast admittedly. The live music certainly helps and the vibe with the low lighting gives it a very nice feel when dining. We had the country fried steak and LSC burger, both very good. The country fried steak was one of the better ones we’ve had here, extremely savory and the fries were good too. The burger was juicy and full of flavor as well. Beware the fries here are really home fries or cubed fries in case geometry is not your thing.

Ultimately, The Water Trough is a very good place to eat at and is probably a bit overlooked due to its location in The Domain, but between solid food and good live music scene, we don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to stop by. We’d recommend this spot as an alternative to the hustle and bustle of the north Domain and for those preferring a more relaxed and intimate night of food and music.

Tried to eat lunch here on a Tuesday at noon. After waiting for a while, we were told they were having an upcoming vent (the restaurant was completely empty) but we could sit outside. We went outside and were eventually given dinner menus. He left and when he came back we said are you sure we can order from the dinner menus and the indicated yes- this was their totally new menu that had just changed yesterday. OK. Tried to order a glass of wine at that point and they said their bartender doesn’t come in till 1 pm or so. OK. Ordered a diet coke. He came back again later (with no diet coke) and had lunch menus and said he was wrong, this was the correct menu. We left at that point. The place is super cute, but needs better management to address service concerns.

While the location is pleasant, the dining experience lacked the ambiance of a traditional restaurant. The salmon, though tasty, was a bit too spicy for my preference. The fries and burger were both overly salty. Additionally, I found it disruptive when plates were cleared before everyone had finished eating, and the check was presented mid-meal. This restaurant’s style and service don’t align with my preferences.

When my family and I walked in there were no other guest. The staff was standing around talking so we waited. After some awkward waiting I asked if we just seat our selves, no response from anyone. Finally a server came over to us, so I asked again. He said yes. The rest of the service continued about the same. Food took forever, mind you we were still the only ones there. Wrong food brought out, ect. Anyway, long story short, the restaurant is beautiful but the staff needs training.

Also had some dinner on one night. The wood fire and live music were great.

This is a really cute place. We stopped in on a Thursday and were delighted by the live music. When we walked in a server told us to “sit anywhere we’d like”. We sat at a nice table by the fireplace. However, a waitress never came by our table. After a good amount of time, we got up to get drinks from the bar. The table next to us was getting served and we thought she would come by after she took their order. But she took our water glasses and never came back or asked if we wanted anything. We tried to get her attention many times but we were unsuccessful. It was really unfortunate because we loved the atmosphere. Hopefully we can make it back here.

Wonderful place to get lunch. Beautiful view on the hotel pool and outside area from the restaurant. They have free coffee and small lunch menu that doesn‘t overwhelm- just right and everyone will find something!
I ordered a Peach Caprese salat but they offer it seasonal with pears. It tasted so good I will definitely go back.

Always the perfect ambiance with amazing food and live music. There is a daily happy hour from 4-7 pm and they have delicious brisket smoked daily on site as well as a full menu with a broad selection of items to choose from. The bartenders are all amazing <3 This restaurant/bar is always open to the public. You seat yourself (inside or outside) and order with the bartenders. The Water Trough opens daily at 4pm, and 12 pm on Fri and Sat staying open till two am! This is a full bar with the availability to make all kinds of craft cocktails and an amazing old fashioned. The live music is always on Thursdays through Saturdays. This place is one of a kind type or Texas-Cozy style and definitely worth checking out!

Awesome place. You don’t have to stay at the lone star to come here. They have free coffee and a good breakfast order as well as brisket nachos for dinner. The drinks are good as well. It’s really relaxing in there and they had music playing every night along with happy hour everyday.
