Established in 1994 as North Dakota’s first non-smoking bar, The Blue Rider takes its namesake from the native German and Russian emigrant impressionist art group, Der Blaue Reiter. It’s eccentric decor and laid back vibe makes for an attractive hangout for anyone. Fair prices, free wifi, 16 beers on tap, grilled cheese, and friendly service is standard. There’s an outdoor patio for sipping in the sun, trivia every Wednesday, live music often and a deep enough record collection to satisfy any music taste. Was on an overnight train when we passed through town. Conductor said not to leave train side, so my buddy and I took the opportunity to run into town and grab a quick beer. Nice little bar with friendly staff and customers. Wish we had a little more time to enjoy.
