Other than these tables, and the ability to sit outside, people watch, and greet passers by, the food and service is simply outstanding!! I had the homemade corn beef and cabbage hash and eggs. The hash is as good as I’ve had and everyone we came in contact with seemed determined to make certain we were enjoying ourselves.
My daughter had a fluffy pancake and a side of scrambled eggs. My had eggs and some great looking veggies.
Being my daughters 21st Birthday we all had mimosas
and a great time.
Great service.
No wait.

I went for the tater tot waffle with fried eggs, bacon, and (supposed-to-be) avocado, plus sides of salsa and sour cream. Turns out, the “waffle” was more like a very thin hash brown—not the thick more hearty waffle I imagined. Creative concept, but it didn’t quite land.
That said, there were highlights! The bacon was perfectly crispy just like I asked (major win), and the sautéed greens were a pleasant surprise—flavorful and well-cooked.
Coffee-wise, it’s drip only—no espresso—but they do offer oat milk, which was a nice touch.
Sunnyside! This spot just keeps getting better! This breakfast + lunch restaurant decided to update their name to avoid confusion; they also own the cafe attached to Sherman’s Book Shop on Main Street.
We continue to stop in for the excellent and friendly service, really excellent and fluffy pancakes and perfectly cooked eggs.
Advice: if you want an espresso-based drink, visit Barn Door Cafe and grab one to go to tote along to the restaurant. They encourage it! If you want regular or decaf coffee, you’re golden. ☺️
If you enter in the back door, head to the front area to be seated (otherwise they won’t know you’re there!) There’s a cute area by the stairs with children’s books to keep your littles occupied if you have to wait for a table.
Could not recommend Sunnyside more.

Review from 2023:
Barn Door Breakfast is open on Main Street, Damariscotta! We enjoyed bottomless coffee, blueberry pancakes, and the tot waffle! Everything was delicious and the restaurant looks cozy and refreshed. We also tried the Mr. French’s Toast and can’t get it off of our minds; it’s almost custard-like French toast that melts in your mouth. Highly recommend.
The owners / bakers also own Barn Door Café, the café attached to Sherman’s Book Shop (also on Main St).
Glad to see this space open and serving delicious breakfast and lunch options! Can’t wait to get back to taste more of the menu.
Eggs cooked to order and sour dough today! Yummy breakfast with eclectic coffee mugs…one of my favorite homey touches!
Friendly helpful staff. Will return!
Love the colors on the walls – so inviting. The presentation of my breakfast was creative and elevated my experience. The bacon was the absolute BEST I’ve ever had – and cooked to perfection!!
