Stopped in last week for lunch. Had a delicious corned beef and chopped liver sandwich and matzah ball soup. This is a staple and I come here monthly, I stick to the same sandwich rotation and have had about a third of the menu. They have great service and really friendly waitstaff, and I love their black and white cookies.

The Bagel is a total scene and you probably feel like you’ve stepped right into an episode of Seinfeld when you hit the door. The portions are huge and tasty. The service is better then you might expect and this location is really large. It does get busy on the weekends and you will almost certainly wait around the holidays on the weekend but if you’re shopping at Old Orchard or in the area the Bagel is worth the trip.

We did catering with the Bagel. Bad experience with the manager named Suri. She was very rude. If it wasn’t for the fact that we waited so long to place the order, we would have walked out and researched for another place; our event was a few weeks away. The food was just okay. Pieces of the noodle kugel was burnt. I was told of a gravy and it was not delivered. For the amount of money we spent, they should have made every attempt to deliver the gravy. I will never go to their restaurant.

Arrived at 11am on a Friday for a late breakfast. I guess I missed my window for fresh breakfast as my corned beef hash was definitely reheated and too dry. The hash browns on the side were burnt and not even crunchy from the reheating and microwave. This is my second experience and not a repeatable one. On my first, I charged for cream cheese on my bagel and $10 for a pastrami omelet. The omelet was just that meat and egg folded. Large portions but doesn’t justify the high price for low quality.

They allow food to be ordered until 9:45, yet close at 9 and haven’t bothered to update the time because phone calls are hard. I show up to pick up the order and manager tells me she just received the “fax” 10 minutes after I received the in the works confirmation, and she was completely unapologetic and rude. Another of a long list of reasons I now have for avoiding this place.

I called these guys about half an hour before showing up for lunch with about a dozen people, and not only were they able to get us in, but they set us up in a private room and everything was ready when we arrived. The food was great! Portions were on the large side. Everyone there was friendly and attentive.

Rich, thick soups almost as good as mom used to make, and matzo ball soup that will cure any ill. This has been our go-to place for years and years, and I’m really sad that it will be closing at this location. Thank you, The Bagel, and we’ll come see you at the Broadway location.

What isn’t good here? The matzo ball soup is huge! And I love the pastrami. Mmm. The waitresses are always helpful and sweet. Be careful passing by the dessert bar – I always stop for a chocolate covered marshmallow!

The worst meal I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time.
Hot brisket sandwich, was cold , gravy was cold bread was stale, fries were over cooked, pickles were soggy. Will never go back there. Try Max and Bennys in Highland Park its very good.
