Egypt Star Bakery Allentown has been a landmark since the 1930’s. Since then, the local bakery has been family owned, employing neighbors and their family members for over eighty years. Sticking to tradition, the ovens we bake our bread in are brick ovens operated by gas, coal and oil; most of them have been in our bakery for more than 8 decades. We continue to strive to produce high quality, popular bakery items to please both the wonderful customers we’ve known for many years and those we add every day. From breads, rolls, and buns to danishes, cupcakes, cookies, and custom cakes, we have something for everyone and we love to try new things! Stop in any day of the week for a delicious, fresh, handcrafted treat.

I took the donut to the bakery to show them and to my disbelief the young girl at the counter said “you have to bring all the donuts back so we can see how many were moldy to give you your money back”. I told her I trashed the donuts, but to hear they have a “moldy donuts” policy tells me it’s a normal thing for them.
This bakery has gone down the drain in my eyes. I will never return.
The lady behind the counter was almost as sweet as the pastries. I don’t know how they pack so much goodness in such a tiny store. But I love it!!
I loved the old school feel and the tiny hole in the wall place that not many people can find. Usually places like this are a gem. The container of walnut kiffles were hard, brittle, & dried out. Maybe they were just over baked or I bought a days old batch. I usually get fresh kiffles from the farmers market but I wanted to try these as they looked really good with lots of powdered sugar. The chocolate topped donut filling was great but the donut itself was dried out. Surprising since I came in early in the day so I didn’t expect a dried out fresh donut. The cream puff was pretty good as it had the same kind of filling. Finally, the last item as the saving grace, a spinach croissant/danish. That was pretty flavorful and crisp. I always give places at least 2 chances so I might try out a different location next time. I will get some bread and rolls as well b/c it seems the best reviews are those baked goods.
