Seems like we are seeing more and more Mexican restaurants popping up in small towns in the US. Many of those seem to be hidden gems that the traveler may pass by, but are places worth visiting if you have the time.
Huatulco Mexican Kitchen is definitely one of those gems. It’s located in Perry Plaza just off Kingshighway (US 61), so a couple miles off I-55. The outside facade is much to write hone about (Perry Plaza could use a refresh), but the inside is very clean and nicely themed. The bathroom was also well-kept.
The service staff was very accommodating to our family when we visited for lunch between myself, my folks, my sister and her family and my elderly grandmother. They worked with us to get the tables set up right and ensured our drinks were filled up and replenished our salsa.
Kudos to the service staff for working with my niece’s dietary sensitivities as it makes it a challenge finding somewhere in the area that both my nieces like.
I had the birria burrito and a big mug of horchata. Big part of my food rating comes from the great meny variety and having items like Agua fresca and birria on the menu (which for a small town is amazing). Overall I enjoyed the burrito though I would like the burrito to either be a little more moist or come with consomme on the side as the beef was a little dry and birria appreciates having birria served with it. The other headscratcher was seeing frankfurters in the beans. A very odd choice to say the least, maybe offer that as an option for those who don’t mind (or a choice to go without for someone like me) would be a plus. The horchata was pretty good as well, served in a nice cold mug. My family overall enjoyed their orders as well and liked the selection of dishes they have.
If you are looking for a hidden gem of a restaurant or you are a local to the area, definitely check out Huatulco Mexican Kitchen if you crave Mexican food.

Really good food! The Huatulco burrito is massive and SO good!! Me and my wife share it when were trying to eat cheap and its the same cost as going to taco bell and so much better! The only downside is the salsa can have too much salantro in it. It is the BEST Mexican restaurant in Perryville hands down

Finally, an owner who has restored some of the vibe of the old El Torero! Full service menu – no more ordering at the counter. Food was quick to arrive and fresh and delicious. I had the chicken tacos from the lunch menu and have already decided to come back for spicy shrimp or fish tacos on purple tortillas. Lots of little, authentic touches on the menu and the new decor make this place worth a try!

Restaurant was loud, waiting staff was slow, waited 2 hours to be served. Watched two tables that arrived after us get served. Wait staff tried to blame the kitchen for us not being served. Was in my opinion and my coworkers opinions racist. I have 2 African American coworkers. Every table that got served before us were white. We feel very disrespected. Definitely do not recommend if you are not Caucasian or Hispanic.

Wish I could leave 0 stars. Ordered online through doordash, was supposed to take 25-30 minutes. Waited over 1 hour and 45 minutes, tried to cancel the order but no one was at the service desk. Finally left and some time later once I was home it was marked ready for pick up. Now I’m out $30 and got nothing. Never going back and encourage no one else to go unless you enjoy being robbed.

We finally got a chance to try this Mexican place. We have been to many others and became regulars at those places. However after trying this one, this is one of our favorites! Atmosphere makes you feel like your in your own area instead of out in the open. Prices are really nice and good. The workers are very friendly, knowledgeable and do a really great job!
And the food is truly awesome!
We love it here now and it’s our new regular!
