I will qualify myself by openly stating that I am a coffee snob; I drink Iced Americanos, drip, or nothing else. I judge a barista by their ability to pull espresso shots that are sweet, clean, and the faintest hint of a good kind of bitter. Nothing is worse than ordering a drink that showcases a shot and having the shot acrid, sour, and burnt. It ruins the entire beverage.
Friends, I am being honest when I tell you that I have NEVER had a bad shot at POCC. I keep expecting it, as we all have off executions every once in a while, but nope. Never. Consistently delicious. Predictably pleasing. When I had a friend over who was a very skilled and passionate barista for years I gushed about this place to her and got her a 16oz Iced Americano, extra ice, no water. And she immediately agreed. It is an amazing place for quality coffee.
The staff are all absolutely amazing and precious. Expedient, yet friendly. Consistent, professional, and leaders of their domain. Everyone seems to have a lot of fun working there and that makes a huge difference as a customer to see people happy and enjoying themselves where they work.
The line can get a little long and wrap around the 76 convenience store, but you always have options to park and walk up to the pedestrian window, call ahead to save time, or they’ll sometimes come out to get your order if you’re a few cars back from the window. If you’re going on the weekend, then expect a weekend wait. Non-professional commuters are ordering their schmancy drinks. It’s a good moment to listen to a podcast, check your mail, or disassociate from reality a little as you gaze at the beautiful Olympic Mountains beyond the evergreen forests of our dear Kitsap County.
