If you’re interested in discovering a jewel in the dining world of Kansas City’s Brookside area, you’ve come to the right place! Every detail of this restaurant has been carefully considered, and the dining experience is…. absolutely exquisite. If you’re looking for a getaway from your regular life and you feel like a taste of Europe, take a seat at the table. Let the waitress, Kat, tell you about the wines. She’s bound to give you some great advice. Choose absolutely any of the items on the menu knowing that each one is going to have you nodding your head saying to your dining partners, “Absolutely delish!” Photos cannot do it justice. You just have to go. Enjoy each bite. Savor for each sip. Plan to return. It’s that great. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My partner and I visited during KC Restaurant Week. Although it’s a hectic time to dine out, the service was fast and our waitress was lovely! The food was great for the price. Cru is a great addition to the Brookside food scene!

We tried the girl dinner they have on Tuesdays. For $25, from a prefix menu, you get one serving of alcohol (you can only choose from what’s listed on the prefix menu) and soup or salad, plus a serving of fries and a light charcuterie (3 slices of salami, pickled veggies, cheese cubes, 2 crostini toast). The food was good, nothing spectacular. The wine included in this special looked to be a 6 oz. pour, so not a lot. The restaurant was packed, but we were able to get a reservation just the day before. A bit loud, but good ambiance.

Oh how I want Cru to do well. After years and years of it just being a neighborhood watering hole, I do want to see them succeed.

First, their renovation is fantastic! They did a great job of making the old go away and bringing a new face to this corner. Lovely staff, great light, beautiful decor. Love all the changes. It doesn’t smell like the old grungy bar it was for so many years.

As always, I will call out the terrible reviews of faceless people ranting about stupid stuff. “It took 10 minutes to order my drink!” What? Settle down, Becky. Restaurants get busy, if you can’t handle that, stay home.

I will credit the truths… the menu is limited and overpriced. The food is just meiocre at best. Advice to the chef, just take a deep breath and don’t try so hard. The excessive peppercorns + sauce is unnecessary. The food was cooked brilliantly and served hot. Ease up on the “extra fluff” and you’ve got it. I spent my eating time scraping all the extra off to the side so I could enjoy the well cooked meat and fries. Maybe just step back and simplify the menu a bit… it’s Brookside, not Leawood.

Wine selection is fantastic! The new owners have done very well in that department, kudos!

Looking forward to returning again and hope the kitchen has readjusted to more clean options without all the fuss.

This was our first time at Cru. What got us to come here was their $25 girl dinner. It was exceptional! Perfect amount of food and the drink was an added bonus. We also had the caviar with chips and that was also great! We finished off with their basque cheesecake which was the perfect amount of creaminess. If you like goat cheese you’ll like this cheesecake! Service and staff were amazing. 10/10 we will be back for their brunch that they do on weekends!

Had a very disappointing dining experience last night. Reservations were for 6:30 on the patio. The ambiance was ok, music was pretty loud but enjoyable, and that’s about where the positives end. It took quite some time for a menu to be brought over and it seemed like we weren’t really on our server’s radar, at all. The table next to us was sat at the same time and we watched as they ordered and received food and drinks before I was even able to order a glass of wine. After sitting there for ages, we finally flagged down a server who said that it was her first day. She apologized for our wait and said that she was going to check on the status of our food. The tartare did eventually come out and our server stopped by. She said that they were working on a drink for me. I was confused because I didn’t order anything and I really wouldn’t have wanted to, considering it took 20 minutes to get the first glass. Then a manager came out with another glass of wine to “apologize” for the delay. It was strange. If everyone on the patio was experiencing delays, that would be one thing. That was simply not the case. I love dining out and have worked at several restaurants—I have a lot of patience when it comes to delayed service, but I don’t have patience when it’s clear that I am experiencing subpar service that other tables around me aren’t.

Back to the food. I’m a big fan of tartare, this one was just ok. The chips and the mustard were the best parts. My burger finally arrived…at 8:00! The fries were cold but I could tell that they would have been really good if they were hot. We watched entire parties have multiple courses and multiple rounds of drinks, pay, and then leave in the time it took for our entrees to arrive. I was so put off that even though some of desserts looked good, I wasn’t in the mood to entertain it. Through all of this, we never really got an explanation for why everyone else was getting service and we weren’t.

I had been excited to try this restaurant but I probably won’t be back unless someone I’m with really wants to go.

A great new KC restaurant! Fine dining quality of food and atmosphere, with a very warm, welcoming, and casual vibe. The place is beautiful, with white tablecloths, comfortable chairs, and a gorgeous chandelier. The huge wine library against one wall is both attractive and interesting.
The friendly and attentive staff really contribute to the warmth of the restaurant.
Everything we have had or tasted has been delicious! It’s hard to single out anything, but a friend raves about the beef tartar, I love the pave potatoes, and both the steak frites and chicken with grits I had were very delicious. So was my friend’s fish, and the risotto. Great cocktails, and the wine focus is evident in the wines by the glass we have had. We plan to go back on a Sunday, when bottles are half price! Also, looking forward to coming for lunch!

Came here for lunch to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The restaurant has a nice, bright atmosphere with a beautiful wine display that adds to the charm.

We both ordered the green tomato BLT—I substituted the smoked tomato soup for the fries. The sandwich was good, though it lacked a bit of pizazz. The tomato soup, on the other hand, was flavorful and enjoyable.

After we were seated, I mentioned my friend’s birthday to the hostess and asked if they offered a complimentary dessert. She said they could bring something sweet along with a card, which I thought was a lovely gesture. However, after we paid and were getting ready to leave, they brought out a card with just a small dollop of whipped cream and a candle.

I appreciate the effort, but I wish the hostess had been upfront that they don’t actually offer a dessert. I would’ve been totally fine with that and could have planned something else.

Went to Cru before seeing Mean Girls at Starlight (so yes this post is just a little late ). The cheese with grapes and olives was a lovely start. The menu didn’t mention the olives but they were very much needed. The grapes alone would have been too sweet and one note. The briny olives brought the whole bite together.
We also shared the green goddess salad. This salad is not for the faint of heart. The dressing is in your face with anise flavor. It is composed really well with dressing being placed between the leaves of romain. It went well with my dry bubbles.
Then as entrees we got the risotto, pork, and fish. The sauce on the fish was very delicate and delicious. The flavors were very subtle. The pork was fried perfectly, the sauce could have used a little salt and a little thinning but flavor was there. The risotto was spring on a plate.
All in good meal with two glasses of bubbles each only $10. The menu seemed a little bit all over there, but for a wine and app I would come back.

We had a very nice upscale meal here. The decor is classically elegant, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The cocktails were delicious and came out quickly. I had the salmon and my wife had the braised beef. Both were very flavorful with nice presentation. The portions were not too big and the prices reflected a quality meal but not overpriced. We will definitely be back.
