That said, the atmosphere and design could be better. The interior feels very old, and there is not much happening inside, which is noticeable when a cup of coffee costs almost eight dollars. Some remodeling would really help.
Overall, I still love this place and enjoy coming here.
I write this from my bathroom floor. I was in earlier this evening with my husband we each ordered a panini. I ordered mine gluten free, explained that I have celiac disease and asked about the gluten free food prep and was told it would be cooked in the press with foil wrap and cut with a different knife etc. When I received the sandwich I honestly didn’t believe it was gluten free and checked with the staff to make sure. I still was not sure so before eating it I decided to ask a second employee about the GF bread and he even said and they are commonly asked about it because it looks so good.
Well it was not. I don’t know if it simply came down to them actually giving me the wrong item as we had both ordered the same sandwich or if there was major cross contamination from the ingredients.
I got nervous when after the meal I spoke with the young woman cashier and was asking if they sold the bread by itself because it was so good, she told me that you did but seemed pretty uniformed about it in general which is never a good sign. I told her I was being extra cautious because I could end up getting very sick and here I am, very sick.
I have worked in restaurants and understand that cross contamination is always a risk and have experienced negative reactions from minor cross contaminations. But what I am experiencing currently is something major. I am severely disappointed. I would have just ordered something else. Gluten free beware!
When it comes down to the actual sandwich itself (the Tuscan) it was fine tasting, very simple and could have used some sauce other than the dollops of mustard and pink mayo on the plate. My husband felt his sandwich was not worth $17. I would have come back if I didn’t get sick, now, absolutely not.
I love this cafe. With a mouthwatering selection of gelatos, Italian sweets and savory items, and espresso / beverage menu, I always find something I like. Plus their corner location in beautiful Kensington is charming AND easy.
I usually go for coffee in the morning, but have enjoyed lunch and dessert here, too. I recommend an affogato or a pastry!
Their staff is very nice and food always arrives beautifully presented. Choose from indoor seating or shaded outdoor tables to enjoy the quaint neighborhood!
The service is quick and friendly
The one thing that stops me from rating five or four stars? The music is always LOUD!
I have to take everything to go because sitting there with the pop music going at 7 am is a nightmare
My parents recently moved to Kensington and my husband and I were in town for two weeks to help.
We walked here almost every day to try something new and it NEVER disappointed us.
The breakfast croissants were delish – my fav was salmon and hubbys was the bacon. Made fresh and made to order – I love how the croissant was lightly toasted on top. The flakes were messy but incredible.
Fav pizza for me was the breakfast pizza with bacon and over easy eggs – hubbys was the pepperoni pizza. This pizza didn’t even need ranch! The dough is house made – per a server we asked. Perfectly thin in the middle with the crust being fluffy. One pizza was perfect for two people.
They have 30% off pizzas on Tuesday and 50% off panini’s on Wednesday.
The paninis we so crispy and the stack was delish! I loves the sauces on them – I’m drooling already thinking about them.
Before you leave you MUST get the affogato! It’s their espresso which is imported from Italy – and they pour it over a scoop of house made gelato!we tied a few flavors but our favorite was vanilla. When I say we basically had it every day – I’m pretty serious. It was the perfect treat. The espresso was frothy and creamy – then on top of the gelato … I miss this place already!
Loved being able to eat outside and enjoy the air. The staff was always so nice. Place was always clean. Bathrooms clean.
Just go already. Lol
