First time at 1878 yesterday, Feb. 28, 2026. Wish we’d found this place sooner. They make a great Rueben Sammie, bread grilled to perfection and a giant Chef Club salad. When we return, we’ll split the salad to save room for dessert. The cheesecakes looked fab. Staff is super friendly. This place goes high on my “return to” list

First time trying this place out. The lunch menu was limited to mainly sandwiches. My fiancé ordered the Cuban and I ordered the salmon appetizer. The Cuban lacked flavor. The pork was very dry. I think it needs a sauce. The smoke salmon appetizer was pretty good. Over all food was average. Their dinner menu looked better.

I’m a photographer who does website shoots for restaurants and loved getting the opportunity to see the depth and variety of 1878 Butcher’s Block menu! I tried the Reuben and the Blockhouse Crostini (*HIGHLY* recommend) and they were both awesome. The eagerness the kitchen staff had when they got to help finish off the remainder of the food I think tells you all you need to know.

Two visits in two days. Ive sampled several items and have been not only pleased but impressed with each one. Nothing laden with flashy culinary babble, just simple EXCEPTIONAL ingredients. Down to the sauces used in a simple Pastrami sandwich I had today, which I also would recommend, every detail is NOTICEABLY pondered. Every bite is a RICH experience and there aren’t any more ingredients than necessary. The staff is knowledgeable and tight-knit. One of the first places I can visit, point blindly to the menu, and receive something truly breathtaking.

We met friends today for lunch. I had a small pizza sandwich. It was delicious! The bread was really good. The restaurant is in a home that was built in 1878, thus the name “1878 Butchers Block”. They have retained the fireplace that was in the original home. The original owners name is written on the back of the fireplace.

The filet dinner is one of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. Not only was the steak cooked and seasoned to perfection, but the risotto and veggies were as well! We were blown away at how delicious each element was. Service was also exceptional! 10/10 will be back

Best place to get a sandwich. It isn’t cheap, but it’s well worth it. No sandwich in the upstate compares. The sandwiches are made with fresh bread and ingredients. It’s turned into an addiction. I always have a craving for their food. Service is always on point.

Butcher is in the name, but sandwiches are the game here!
Don’t get me wrong, they have a few meat selections, but don’t expect a butchers case loaded with meats and different butcher style cuts.
However, I totally loved our sandwiches and beer! My hot take on the Club, the bacon was paper thin and I was expecting some nice thick smoked bacon…
The service was excellent and with a smile.

Great atmosphere with great service. The food was excellent. Great selection of meats. Excellent selection of beer and wine. Very laid back and relaxing environment. I definitely want to go back and get a closer look at the meat selection. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone. This place is a must stop when you roll through Landrum.
