Being from Texas i didn’t know what to expect stopping in here for some BBQ but must say i really liked it. Great college football atmosphere too. Very friendly and professional staff too, highly recommend stopping here to eat if you are passing through and want some good BBQ.

Ordered half a slab of ribs. I was served individually ribs, covered in bbq sauce. The ribs were tough and not fresh at all. The ribs appeared to be the end of slabs. My friend ordered fried shrimp and was served popcorn shrimp. I’ve eaten there several times and the food quality is never the same. Don’t think I’ll be going back.

Atmosphere and staff was nice.
Between our table we got two orders of peel and eat shrimp and two orders of the BBQ special. Shrimp came to the table room temperature and tasted and felt like it had been boiled several hours prior. Ribs and pulled pork in the BBQ special was good and well seasoned. The potatoe salad had hard potatoes that made it almost inedible.
Overall price for what you got was decent. Will go back again to try again and will update review at that time based on my second experience.

The only meat that I eat is fish I’ve ate at pins, back 40 and now here at cooks. There was a taste and smell of old grease at cooks. Also the fish batter had a higher content of flour that needed another minute to completely cook. I ordered the Fish filets but got fish strips. If it wasn’t for the old grease taste and smell the review would have been higher.

Got 2 Fish plates. They were okay but frying oil should be changed regularly. Plate smelled like old grease. Sides were okay also. It was good service just could have tasted better.

The food is always great and gets to us in a timely manner. You better go early if you plan to eat in because the restaurant fills up fast. The cashier/waitress is always really sweet and you can tell she cares about what shes doing. Definitely my favorite place to eat in Newton

Driving through from Texas, wanted to stop by and get some good Mississippi food. We were not disappointed. Great customer service, fast and efficient and Jackie was very friendly. We got the shrimp sandwhich, oyster sandwhich and fried okra and it was very delicious.
