This place is awesome! The food is excellent and the atmosphere is immaculate. The staff are so welcoming and friendly! The ramen was great, and the Unagi Tempura special appetizer was unexpected and delicious. We have never had anything like it!

Even the hot sake tastes noticeably better than what you get in a lot of other Japanese restaurants. It’s like we warmed it up at home! I also had a Calpico Shouchu cocktail and it was great.

Heading home to Vancouver at 3pm from a weekend of our daughter’s volleyball tournament. Glad we found this place. The ramen is as good as I expected, same quality as back in Vancouver. Too bad they didn’t have the Mackerel…..i was craving it. Got the gyozas instead. $18 for ramen and $10 gor gyozas was decent value.

Well, it so happened that the other Wa-Ku location was unexpectedly closed (well, to be honest, I just didn’t look on their Google Business profile), so I headed over to this other location, and I was delighted!

First things first, the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming from the moment I walked in. There’s plenty of seating and I could see how it might get a *little* busy during the day, but I stopped by in the evening, so it felt very relaxed there.

Second, although I expected the menu to be very similar to that of the other location, it was a pleasantly surprising mix of new and familiar things to try. (Not to worry! There’s still ramen, but the emphasis is more on smaller, izakaya-style plates than on heavy Japanese-style curry dishes). I had the kaki (oysters) and okonomiyaki (savoury pancake). Everything was fresh and tasty and I felt like the kitchen staff were doing fantastic work.

Lest I forget, I also had a lovely conversation with a friendly and kind server named Jessica, which completed my utterly delightful visit to this location. I can’t believe I’ve been going to the other Wa-Ku for such a long while and haven’t visited this location before! I’m going to have to rectify this situation.

In the meanwhile, I highly recommend this cozy and tasty restaurant—as perfect for a modest family gathering as it is for a date—to one and all.

Service was great and friendly. We ordered 3 ramen (vegetarian, classic and soy sauce) I can’t remember the names, but they were really good. Price was good too.

I spent some time in Japan and was pleased to walk into what felt like an authentic eatery. The décor is humble and the place is very clean, as I would expect.
I have certain dishes I order as standard controls to evaluate places I have not tried before. The chicken karaage was some of the best I have had anywhere.
A new experience for me were the kale noodles, outstanding! I will order these with other meals when we visit again.
We were there during a shift change and the different waitresses were both charming and operated without any gap in our service.

Japanese couple operated restaurant, very good service and nice people, I have to wait for 10mins over the weekend at 8:30pm, full house and people waiting outside. Reman is good but I am expected the soup to be more rich, we had tonkotsu noodle, the Chashu is not fatty, it can be more juicy, the egg was not warm enough, but I would expected they will improve on my next visit. Nice people and good sake.

Our family always has the best time there. The servers are so friendly and my “picky eater” loves the Ramen 02. Honestly the best place for ramen in the north end of Nanaimo.

My first time being here, they had me a water ready. Order A-06 Potato Croquettes and R-03 Ramen. The Service was amazing and understood my speaking issues. The wine was delicious so I had 2 cups of it. Sadly I don’t know how to spell it.
So I’m happy with the time, food, and everything here.

Amazing & authentic ramen and friendly service. Seating area itself is not the most inviting just due to the building design, but the quality of the food easily makes up for it. Very fairly priced and would be great for a take out option
