I’d been to this restaurant before they remodel. Went along to this restaurant with some family friends, to celebrate a birthday. I was amazed how the owner remodeled the place. It’s very modern and cozy for serving international noodles. they’ve added many great items to menu. The food was ok before but now it’s really good. The food was perfect, modest portions and speedy service which always makes for a better evening when it’s cold out. The place had a buzzing atmosphere and what you’d expect from a Friday night in Newtown, PA.
.All 6 of us had 6 courses and were very impressed, will definitely be going again.
We walk in for a late lunch and there was only one other table occupied. The waitress gestures toward the wall and says we can pick any table. As we’re about to sit down she says, “No, not there, that’s only set for two people.” (There were 3 of us.) So she moves us to the table right next to the only other guests eating, rather than just moving one place setting. She gives us the menus; there aren’t many items on the menu, so it doesn’t take us long to decide. We waited for at least five minutes, and even then we basically had to flag her down to take our order (again, despite being the only people in the restaurant). We ordered ramen and udon.
Well, I lost track of time, but it must have been close to 20 minutes we waited for noodles. I noticed right away that the udon did not, in fact, contain udon noodles, but something that looked like linguine. I’ve been to Japan and ate it a few times there, and udon noodles are much fatter and softer. The broth was okay. It came with some tempura shrimp and vegetables, but the batter felt too thick and doughy. As for the ramen, the broth looked nothing like the picture, nor like what I have seen before, and it was barely room temperature. It had two pieces of very fatty pork and a weird tasting egg. The broth itself didn’t have much flavor, and just did not taste good. I couldn’t even drink it. I’ve had better instant ramen, and it’s far less expensive. $11 a bowl was way too much.
So after we get through our disappointing meal, we have to try and hunt down a waitress again — shouldn’t have been difficult with so many employees standing around, but not one came by to check on us. In a nearly empty restaurant. I see our waitress standing around and looked her way, clearing my throat very loudly, but then she walked into the kitchen. Maybe two minutes later, we manage to catch the attention of another waitress whom I could barely even hear.
tl;dr — overpriced, lousy food, lousy service — don’t waste your time.
The service was good and meals is reasonably price. Definitely will come back for more.
Service is terrible: I went with a friend once and we ordered 2 dishes. When the waitress came with my friend’s dish, she asked if we wanted a plate to share and I said that I had ordered my own dish. She asked what it was and then went back in the kitchen. We then waited for 20 minutes for my dish to come out. My friend also ordered his dish with no peanuts (nut allergy) and his dish came with plenty of nuts! The waitress said she thought he said he wanted lots of nuts and said she would pick out the nuts for him. He said no because he is extremely allergic and he was afraid she would miss one. He asked for a new dish without nuts and she seemed very hesitant to go back in the kitchen. IT WAS HER FAULT SHE SHOULF FIX IT. I thought I might try it again (maybe just a bad day for the waitress) so I went with my family. The same exact waitress came to our table and recommended that we try the bubble tea. So we ordered on and she went in the back. We then heard a lot of noise and she returned to say that they were out of bubble tea (I later found out that she had actually broken the machine).
Poor selection: not only is the menu very limited, the waitress said that they were out of a lot of stuff. We had only 3 options for an entree! She said it was because they had just opened a week ago but a restaurant should only open if it’s ready to!
Oddly decorated: the room has a Hawaiian-like feel (straw awning inside even though it’s an Asian restaurant). The music kept on changing for classical to pop songs (nothing “Asian” sounding to me).
All in all: terrible place to eat.
