Overall a nice place and it has some very refreshing options. The servings are quite large so it stretched to the next day. Ordered a build-your-own bowl with half açaí and half mango with fresh strawberries, banana, peanut butter, and honey on top. It was quite delicious, though I would not get the mango base next time as it was a little too sweet. Also, it would be cool if they layered toppings between the base, as it’s just a lot of base compared to the toppings. Otherwise, the bowl was very good because the granola retained its crunch while not being overly sweet and the fruit was delicious. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Friendly and helpful staff, very clear and polite. Lots of options for drinks, smoothies and bowls! Very fast service, got my drink within a few minutes of ordering. I got the sweet cream cold brew, it was quite delicious, not to sweet and not to bitter. The atmosphere is very inviting, with plenty of seating and a gorgeous view of the trees in the courtyard!

My acai bowl was a bit flavorless but pretty. The woman who took my order didn’t seem to be in the most chipper mood which opposes the fun easy-going atmosphere. She was warmer with her co-worker tho. But hey everybody has their days.

I had seen this restaurant before but never stopped in. However, after hearing some glowing reviews from a friend, I decided to finally give Playa Bowls a try while I was in Chevy Chase—curious to see what all the hype was about. I must say, I was truly impressed!
The restaurant has a unique, vibrant décor and a welcoming ambiance that instantly draws you in. The staff were both professional and warm—special shoutout to Hathaway and Kalie, who were incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable.
During my visit, I tried the Pacific Green bowl, and every bite was absolutely delicious. What really stood out was Playa Bowls’ creative twist: combining vegetables, superfoods, and fruits in such a flavorful way. It was not only tasty but also felt like a treat for my body.
I was excited to learn that there are several locations across Maryland, so this newfound healthy indulgence is definitely here to stay for me. I’ll absolutely be back to explore more of their menu!

We love trying acai wherever we go and Playa Bowls did not disappoint!
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the dining area had a really fun vibe (a uno game to play while waiting and a nice fireplace), the bowls and smoothies were delicious (the Nutella bowl with extra fruit on top was *chefs kiss*), and everything was super clean and tidy.

I didn’t take my bowl – The server grabbed a bowl out of the refrigerator that had NO lid on it. I asked if they premade their food now and she said no it was a mistake they made earlier. At this point, I was grossed out. I basically said no unacceptable. I had just watched her clean the inside of the door and around in the refrigerator opens on the floor level. This is where I couldn’t get beyond the next thing which was this was my bowl she was adding too…They always tell me they have to clean up for a hour before they close at eight and I find that every time I come in around 7:30 it’s usually a issue in the person or time. I waited for quite a while at this point and it’s not the first time I’ve had an experience with this particular person. The product that had been made earlier that they were going to add the fruit to it. She started putting the fruit right on it. I ordered extra Nutella that just it was just not a good thing. I was very uncomfortable. Tipped when I paid so this evening was a loss of a good dessert and my money – I left without my dessert and encouraged them to understand why. I’ve been a good customer but this was icky – I’m a germ phob too; please cover the food in the fridge – especially if you are selling it!

The Playa Bowls™ concept is the vision of founders Robert Giuliani & Abby Taylor — both Jersey Shore natives & long time surfers. Abby grew up in Ocean Township surfing the beaches of Monmouth County, while Rob grew up surfing in Ocean County. They were inspired by chasing summer on surf trips to Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, California & Hawaii. Almost every exotic surf town they visited offered their own unique version of an acai or pitaya bowl. They decided to recreate their favorite recipes with their own twist at home at the Jersey Shore.
They made a deal with the owner of the pizza shop they lived above on 8th Avenue in Belmar, NJ. They bought a blender, a patio table, a fridge & a freezer and set up a makeshift pop up stand on the sidewalk in front of the pizza shop. They spent a lot of time & effort telling their story and educating customers on the benefits of acai. As word spread of this creative & intuitive pop up stand, more & more people stood in line on the side of Ocean Avenue to see what Playa Bowls was all about. Rob & Abby realized it was time to take their growing business to the next level. Fast forward nine years & here we are, sharing our story & passion at over 200 stores nation wide.
