we completely understand this is a soft opening, so the minor cons didn’t set us back at all — we’ll definitely be regulars at this location!
pros:
– the lychee rose apple drink was super refreshing & perfectly sweet — even my mom approved!
– the xlb was just as delicious as we remembered — juicy, flavorful, and very satisfying
– my husband’s favorite was the spicy beef! he said it had the perfect amount of spice.
– the durian puff was new to us and such a treat! definitely ideal for durian lovers — once you open the box, the aroma hits you right away. they use real durian flesh for the filling. yum!
cons:
– my friend ordered the crab & pork xlb and mentioned the crab flavor wasn’t very prominent
– the online menu shows the durian puff comes in a set of 4, but be mindful that you will only receive 2
– we ordered 5 xlb and only received 3 vinegar sauces, and they were only about 1/4 filled — definitely not sufficient, so make sure to ask for extra. (the staff was kind & gave us an extra xlb to make up for the wait time so there’s 6 in the photo)
of course, there is a wait time. if you place an order online, expect an additional ~30 minutes on top of the estimated pickup time. but again — it’s a soft opening, so totally understandable.
the space is beautiful and the staff were all very kind!
The tables were mostly for 2 people, with a couple that had 4 seats. They are not too far apart so it was still easy to hold our conversations at a reasonable voice level at table next to each other.
The food was very good by my standards. I got the sesame chicken rice bowl with a Thai tea and my sister got pan fried pork buns, crab meat & pork soup dumplings with a lychee apple rose green tea. The chicken was crispy and had a lot of sauce (major plus), the rice was perfectly cooked, the Thai tea was more mild than strong which suited my personal preferences. The pork buns were amazing. They were juicy inside and the bun was pillowy. Everything was made fresh to order. The fried dough was like funnel cake in consistency, just without the sugar.
Our food came to our table pretty quick, though that is liable to change depending how busy they are. The total cost averaged about $30 per person, including tip. All in all, the price was very reasonable considering the quality of the food and I would highly recommend trying it at least once.
We will definitely be coming back.
The thin wrapper held together perfectly, and the pork filling was juicy and flavorful.
Definitely a great spot to visit if you’re craving soup dumplings..
So happy we made a stop!
